OK... so I'm getting an HDTV. Now... I've got a Pro, not an Elite. I'm pretty sure it's one of the older models, but fill me in. What is the difference between the HDMI cables and the cables the 360 comes with? Will HDMI make a much larger difference in quality? And is it even possible for me to use it?

You can't use the HDMI without an Elite and the component cables it comes with are the same thing except the quality is split between the three cables where HDMI is the entire resolution through one source.

You can't use the HDMI without an Elite Strife88

Not true. All the new model 360s, Pro, Elite, even the Arcade all come with HDMI hookups.

It all depends on weather you purchase a 720p set or a 1080p. If you choose the later you will most likely have to use a vga connection (make sure your set has one, even tho most do) to experiance the full 1080p. If you find yourself with a 720p set the component cables will work fine. You won't see a difference between component or HDMI if your viewing in 720p, although you may find the audio to be some what more pleasing (i myself can't hear much of a difference).

You wont see a significant difference in picture quality as component cables output 1080i resolution which is extreme close to hdmi's 1080p

360 upscales games to 1080p over component. But Hd-DVDs limited to 1080i.

T

There isn't much of a quality difference to worry about. The cables it came with are Analog, while HDMI is digital. So right away that means you get 100% picture with HDMI. But most the time unless you had two tvs side by side, you'd have to look to spot a difference. But, if you have an HDMI tv, might as well seeing how HDMI is only $5 bucks at monoprice.com, which is highly rated even by videophiles, which is how I learned about them. Some people even go cheaper on Amazon. So spending $100 gets 0% difference over the $5 cable.

Only one problem with HDMI with the Pro. IF you plug in HDMI, you can't have the component HD cable connected at the same time to use its optical out if you needed it. The Elite comes with a special adapter that fits with just audio connections at the end while using HDMI, but MS only sells it separate for $50 with their official HDMI cable. Some people, like me, can run the dolby digital sound through the HDMI to my tv, then use e the tvs optical out to reroute the sound to my receiver for the surround sound. As I don't want to replace mine yet with a receiver that supports HDMI audio.
