Hey guys, I just started Oblivion and took out the first gate. I was wondering ifI would be able to join all the guilds listed in both achievements and other various ones that could be throughout the game (not sure if there are others though) or does it strictly rely on how I combat my enemies i.e. I can't join a guild for thevies if I haven't pickpocketed someone or something like that. Thx

No, one purely fighter character can join all the guilds.

But I dont really like doing that, I usually only do 2 factions per character, just doesnt fit a evil mage murderer, to join anything but the mages guild and dark brotherhood, for example. Besides, only doing two factions per character adds LOTS of replay value.

It doesn't matter what if your a warrior or a mage or a thief you can join them all the though you might have some trouble with the mages guild because some quests require you to use a spell, so if your magika is low you will be stuck till you can raise it

Ahhh, thx for the help guys :D. I probably will stick to just a few factions like Grif said to add the replay value and not have a long title when walking around: "Hey it's the evil magical thief who can beat anyone in the arena" :P

I think the key is to do the Thief guild first. Not only does it give you access to fences to buy your stolen goods, but then you get the Cowl, which lets you do the Assassin guild a little easier, and not get you kicked out of the other guilds for killing people.
