home theatre system...xbox 360...help please.

i posted this in the audio video forums but nobody has helped.I just purchased a home theatre system and im trying to hook up my 360 to it,but unfortunatley i have been unsuccessful.I have my surround hooked up to my tv through hdmi,my 360 as well but when i put it on auxilary and turn on my 360 i dont get any sound.Do i need another cable or do i need to connect things differently...any help is very much appreciated...thanks

Okay, you have to connect your hdmi cable from your xbox to your surround, not your tv. Then switch the surround home theatre input to game or xbox and you should be good to go. Your TV should be connected to a satellite/or cable box via hdmi cable.

Are you hooking it up via optical or HDMI?

Either way, optical/HDMI from 360 to your receiver. That's pretty much it, I can't remember if you have to set it up in 360's settings though, I'm not at home so can't check.
