They are both very similar in that they are not digital. I don't think VGA is superior to Component. DVI and HDMI are pure digital signals. Even then, component is still nearly equal unless you have a 50 inch screen at 1080p.

There is a noticable difference when I went from component to VGA on my 23 inch samsung. Definitely worth it. I can tell in all my games the increased clarity.

If you have component cables and an HDTV, you really have no reason to worry about VGA. You're not missing out on anything.

LOL. Ok sir, tell me why you disagree? Do you own a VGA cable for 360? Do you own my TV? Have you owned Component cables for it? If you can say yes to all of this, then go ahead and disagree. If you can't say yes to all of this, kill yourself.

damn that's pretty harsh lol. Another question gang... If I bought a brand new home theater system...do I HAVE to use VGA in order to get surround sound with the 360? It was something I heard but never confirmed...thanks again :)

I dissapointed, with all you self proclaimed 'techno kings' about, I would have thought that you could point out that VGA IS digital and component is analogue. VGA prevents scaling (which is quite obviously a bad thing) and on some TVs it even prevents pixel bleeding (Samsung 23" anyone?). Unless you are dead searious on your HD you aren't going to notice, but if on the other hand, you know what your looking for then you are going to see an immediate and noticable difference.

Oh and don't listen to any of these HDMI fanboys claiming HDMI is the best about. I'm telling you, VGA is far superior, I have heard it from the trained techys themselves when I was looking for my first HDTV to complement my 360.

Nope, every offically released cable from microsoft has a optical out on it. If you don't have a vga capable tv, don't worry about it. Though if you do, try to get the vga cable since you do get some pretty big benefits like 720p dvd upscaling.

If you know what you are looking for, then you will immediately notice it. Even the colors are cleaner and more natural when using the VGA. Seriously people, if you dont have VGA, dont discuss it like you know what you are talking about, because all you are saying is speculative **** that you got from some article...

Does anyone use VGA with a samsung 1080P tv 50 to 72 inch? If so how is the difference on that. I use component right now but might get VGA if it is worth it. Any help would be appreciated

You know how people do blind tatste tests with food, well thats exactly what my cousin and I did on on his 50 inch tv.We tested his HD DVR component vs hdmi and his 360 component vs VGA. He left the room I would switch between inputs and he would say which he thought was better. Next I would leave the room and he would switch the Inputs. We both could not see any difference in the quality of component vs hdmi on the HDDVR and no difference with the xbox 360 vga vs component. Thats all I meant my friend. I disagree that vga cables are "definately worth it". Im sure there are other factors and maybe it depends on the tv, but if you buy a cable that you think will give you better quallity  then of course your going to think its better when you use it.

You have to understand that it depends on the HDTV one has. Your HDTV might not make a difference, but a different one might..

This was on Gamepro' s website."MYTH: VGA output is better than component video.

When it comes to HD TVs, component video sits at the top of the analog video cable heap. VGA is an outstanding choice for PC monitors, but the signal loses some of its boldness when converted to a standard HD TV television signal. If you don't believe us, just plug a VGA cable into your Xbox 360 and see how dull and muted the colors look. There are some exceptions to this rule, such as TVs with cheap, lousy component video inputs.

VGA still gives a quality HD experience, but if you're gaming on an HD TV, stick with component for the brightest, boldest color."
