I don't get why people complain so much. If you can't afford it then don't buy games. The prices of games has never really changed.
If you remember a time when games were $40 brand new, that means you've been a gamer for more than two decades at least. I remember buying Sonic for my Genesis back in the early 90's and it was $50 then. I remember NES games being $49.99 back in the 80's. The average cost of a game has only gone up by $10 in almost 25 years? That's not too bad. If you remember games costing $40, this means you're at least my age (early 30's) or maybe even older. Not to be a douche, but I don't view gaming as that expensive. I don't know your financial situation, but if you're buying a few new releases every week then sure, it'll add up. But, if you buy a new game every 4-6 weeks. Rent some others in between to try them out, then it's not that expensive. Trade in some old games to put toward new purchases. Buy used or buy online. Rent from Gamefly. Plus, since you're posting in the 360 forum, I'll assume you're an Xbox player and you can get an Arcade system for $199? That's pretty cheap considering Microsoft is talking about the lifespan of this console going until 2015. With at least six years left, a 360 costs just over $30 a year on average. That's not too expensive. I understand if you have other more important costs in life (family, food, mortgage, kid's university tuition, etc), but gaming in and of itself is not that bad...especially for the enjoyment you get from it.
What's amazing is that with inflation, there is no way in hell prices should be the same as they were in 1993. If game prices had kept up with inflation, like everything else, we should be paying over $100/game now. The only reason game prices have stayed the same is because the gaming industry has experienced explosive growth over the last 10 years. It is truly a testament to the meteoric rise of the industry that publishers can afford to charge the same prices they were charging in the 1990s.The price of gaming really hasn't moved in the past 25 years. I still remember paying $60 for Mortal Kombat on the Genesis in 1993. Not much else has stayed the same price over that much time. We should be glad that games are still only $59.99 and have not increased over the years.

In Australia new release games go for 120. Fallout 3 has been sitting on the shelfs still on 120 :(... All you can really do is wait for the prices to drop..ThatsSimtasticnot always, and JB usually has games for $10-20 cheaper
we shouldnt have to eat stale bread or starve ourselves so we could get a games, i still cant believe they charge us that much in this economy age

If you really think about it video games really are the best money to entertainment ratio. If i go to a movie with my gf thats $20 on movie tickets alone, then you gotta add in popcorn and pop which adds in another $10 or so. So thats $30 to go see a movie that might last an hour and a half if i'm lucky and i may not enjoy the movie at all. In contrast being a huge hockey fan a purchased NHL 09 at release last year. I easily have over 500 games logged online, thats not even counting my dynasty and the BaP's i have going. On avg each game lasts 30min or so, so that would be over 600 hours. Pretty much what i'm trying to say here is that if your smart with what games you buy they are literally the cheapest form of entertainment based on how much use we get out of them.
If you're looking for affordable gaming you're better off with a PC than with consoles but still, that doesn't mean that you have to spend a fortune to buy games for the 360. All it takes is some discipline and patience. Of course you'll pay top dollar if you absolutely have to have a game the moment it comes out. If you're willing to wait for a while however, prices will usually drop dramatically. I bought all of my 360 games new and the most I've paid for one is $47 and that was the Fallout 3 Collector Edition which I found on sale from $80. The rest of them I bought for $20 to $30. And they're all major titles.
[QUOTE="chaoscougar1"]its called inflation; as wages go up, so do pricesackr1TE
Wages are NOT going up. People are loosing jobs and taking pay cuts just to save there job, its called a recession, heard of it?
yes inflation does decrease as consumption and investment drop. As these two sectors are part of aggregate demand which is; AD=C+I+G+(X-M). This decrease in aggregate demand causes inflation to drop which forces the reserve bank to decrease interest rates in order to stimulate growth through increased borrowings and a decrease in home loan repayments. The reason wages go up is because labour is a derived demand and as aggregate demand increases so does the demand for labour thus as growth starts to appear in the economy more labour will be demanded and inflation will increase thus causing an increase in wages...in saying we are in a recession i have never heard of a first world country recently experiencing deflation per annum so yeh, i may have heard of a recession[QUOTE="Jags218"]If you really think about it video games really are the best money to entertainment ratio.seankane
Definitely.
OP has no right to complain for many of the reasons already stated. Stop whining.
I Agree. I only watch movie once then never pick it up again unless they're showing it on cable & there is no other interesting thing to watch. I only listen to music when I'm at the car or at the gym. I play games whenever I want to compete & there is music in it & if the story is good it's really like watching a movie. So games give you the complete entertainment package. You just have to be careful not to waste your money on bad titles.70 dallors for a new game its hard enough to get a game system which is my gaol by the end of this year but to get a game or even a couple your looking at a huge price tag i remember the day that a new game was roughly $40, it sickens me all this crap sickens me, and i remember when this started call of duty modern warfare was the first $70 game i ever bought.
seriously at these prices how can anyone game now its almost impossible for me.
nofriekinlemons
ive never paid 70 bucks for a game--usually there isa limited edition version with interviews from the developers--for 10 bucks more--

You mean collectors (geeks). You guys have your games at 60$, here they're 70-75€, that's like what , 100$? I find it really hard to get everything I want at these prices, so a few months ago I started importing games from the UK. The British Pound is now almost equivalent to the Euro so I buy new games for 25-40£, around 30-47€, which is a fantastic price for new games. I just got Fuel for 38, I also got Bioshock and Pure for 20, I got 4200 points for less than 40, just to give some examples.
It's cheaper then the NES, SNES/Genesis, N64 era. Gameing has never been cheap and it's only marginally more expensive than last gen. But if you really want to do it cheap just buy everything used and wait for games to drop in price. It's really not that hard. I just bought Mass Effect last week for fifteen bucks. I generally don't buy games for sixty dollars unless it' s for a series I really enjoy. In fact the only game I payed sixty dollars for this year is Halo Wars. Not putting down another sixty till ODST and maybe Assassin's Creed 2 and Modern Warfare 2.

Dang still going on about this when the answer was a given to begin with. Renting, Buying Used, & Selling games you no longer play on a regular basis. Do that & your gaming costs aren't even worth mentioning.

See if you can stand to wait 4 to 6 weeks on a new release like Red Faction Guerrilla then you will be able to pick it up for $32 to $35 New or $27 to $30 used. I'm still not sure if I'm going to rent it or wait & buy it used in a month for $30 or less.Yeah videogames are getting really expensive not and I'm only 18. Prices have gone up a lot in the last few years.
I bought Red Faction: Guerrilla a couple days ago for $78 (tax included).

Yeah I think it's about time to slow down on the game pruchasing and waiting for their prices to go down. I really feel bad for the people who buy more than 3 games a month. Around $200 down the drain.

I dont think its money "down the Drain". poeple spend that kind of money movies , sporting events, concerts and amusement parks. its just another form of entertainment that people dont have a problem spending money on.

I phrased the words wrong haha. I meant it's another $200 you don't have to spend.
