How can I hook my existing profile up to live?

I just got my wireless adapter for my xbox and tried to set up a Live account. But when I did that, it wanted me to make a whole new profile. Is there some way I can connect my existing profile to Live, so I still have access to all my saves and achievements?

you can import your gamertag, but that would only import your gamertag not your saves, to import your saves you would need a transfer cable

Transfer cable? I'm not moving anything from one console to another. This is all on 1 HDD.

How do I import my gamertag into live? I didn't see that option anywhere.

When I go to "import your gamertag" it want me to input a profile that's already on Xbox Live. That's not what I need to do.

When I got my xbox, I created my profile on the system. That profile was never connected to xbox live. Now that I have a wireless adapter, I want to use that profile online. Is there some way I can connect my existing offline profile to live, or do I have to start over?

wait a minute... do you or have you ever had an xbox live account before? sounds liek you have and sounds like you havent. if you havent you need to make your current profile into a live account.

When you connect to xbox live, its gonna ask you to make a gamertag since whatever you named your profile is most likely already taken.

About making my current profile into an xbox live account, how do I do that? That's what I thought I did last time, but instead is asked me to create a new profile, with a new avatar. I didn't see any link to make my offline account into a Live account.

I had to create new Gametags (through GFWL no less) to import them into the console, losing some achievements/game saves in the process. Apparently the first accounts you create on your console are "offline accounts", not Silver ones.

I had to create new Gametags (through GFWL no less) to import them into the console, losing some achievements/game saves in the process. Apparently the first accounts you create on your console are "offline accounts", not Silver ones.
