Only had my 360 since Christmas but I think the only way is to be in a game lobby cause when you click on another person it kills the original conversation.
i think you can have multiple private chats..but in different channels...thats why when you start a Private chat with somebody....it appears a screen that says... channel 1 XXXXX friend...channel 2...channel 3.....if im not wrong....
XBL needs to make bandwidth available for your chatting while you're in-game. If they made unlimited bandwidth available for you to be in large private chats while also keeping bandwidth open for the game AND made it possible to join yet more chats, things would start to lag like mad.
Once upon a time you couldn't even chat freely in Ghost Recon, you had to press the white button to talk. What we have now is a HUGE improvement over that.
I would like it at least when they are all in the same game. I only chat with my bro so I don't have to listen to the idiots but now my brother in law plays too so it would be nice to add him. If you are in the same game then it would not take up any mor e bandwidth since you are taken out of the games reg chat. (still 16 ppl chating)
