pretty simple question. i have a new 360 elite with a 120 gb hard drive and want to install forza 3 and halo 3 odst on the hard drive. does this make your games load faster? and do you still need the disc to play them?

If you want to install the game to the hardrive:

  1. Insert the disk into the disc drive.
  2. Under "My Xbox" select "Game Library."
  3. Select the game you wish to install.
  4. Select "Install to Hardrive."

And PRESTO, the game is installed.

Quickest way I found is to put your disc in the tray and then press "Y" in the first box of the "My Xbox" section to enter the "Game Details" screen. There... the menus act as a tiny encyclopedia-like information center and there will be an option to "Install to Hard Drive" underneath "Play Game", "Rate", and the like.

A couple of notes about installing multi-disc games (like Forza 3 and Final Fantasy XIII): 1. You do not have to install all of the discs at once. 2. For those discs that are installed, when you get to them in the game, you will still need to swap discs. (That's why none of these are available on Games on Demand. Coupled with the file size) 3. Don't forget that if you ever need more space, start with deleting multi-disc games if you don't ever play them. 3. Make sure you have plenty of room, as they are typically 6 GB in size per disc.

Just put in the game, press "Y", then "Install to hard drive". You still need the disc to play. I guess it improves load times. The biggest selling point for me is the reduced noise from the console once it's installed.
