yea i had the same problem with my elite about month and half ago..now im waitin for it to come back after it RROD'd this time. its the same console but second time iv sent it in....really hate microsoft in this generation..
I'm still on my first 360, which I bought in Feb of '06.
Mine is slightly modified though. I cleaned the cheap, gunky stuff MS used for thermal paste off of the CPU, GPU, and heatsinks with acetone, and then applied some Arctic Silver Ceramique which I had left over from building my PC.
So either my modification worked, or I got lucky and got a good one.
You guys are scaring the crap out of me! I just got my 360 a couple months ago. I bought it from a friend very cheaply, but it IS a launch console. Now, I am worried that its a ticking time bomb. If this thing RRoD's......Im just out of the 360 business. Thats it.

2 days after I lost my second xbox 360 my friend lost his 5th xbox 360 to the rrod..I decided I'm not gonna just keep replacing them untill I also reach my fifth one and decided then to buy a ps3
Being a PS3 owner I actually wanted to buy a Xbox 360 in a month and seeing this thread makes me wonder how many times mine will break when I get it. I'm still getting one none the less since everyone knows the PS3 doesnt have a single game worth playing anymore and probably wont have a decent library of games until atleast next year.
6 360s. The 6th one was my last. Sold the damn thing on ebay. Anyhow, I'll come back when they get the hardware failure to like 0.1%. Hopefully it will be soon.

I'm on my 3rd xbox. If it ever RROD's im going to be promptly switching to a PS3. I refuse to give any more money to microsoft for hardware. That is, until they start making something that is actually worth the cost.
I'm on my 3rd - my first one lasted only 4 months - the disc drive broke and it couldn't read any games. My 2nd one died after about 5 months - RROD. I've had my 3rd one since last December, so far so good :) Though the disc tray is a bit jacked, and the discs are extremely loud when I play...

Doubt you will have a problem with RRoD if you get one now, the newer seem to be fine and the RRoD seems to be fixed for the most part in them or at least it seems that way as most of my friends that got theirs in the last year or so have never had problems and my Elite & H3 edition are still working fine. Its mostly consoles bought within the first year that seem to have the problem and of course the ones they got back within that time frame.
my 4th should be here in 2 weeks. lol first system was rrod. Second system was disk drive and third system was rrod. xbox is awesome but junk. thats why warrenty is a must have.
I'm on my third. The first one didn't work at all, so I returned that one the same day I bought it and the second one had a E74 error. I'm doing fine with this one, though I think this one isn't going to last long either cuz it's starting to be slower and slower by the week... :?
I got the 1st gen 360 when it came out and now I'm on my 4th 360. My buddy is on his 6th. He sold his last refurb piece of crud and bought a new arcade unit for half the price of what we paid originally. He put his hard drive on it and it runs quite and cool and doesnt make any clunking and grinding noises when you fire it up. It would seem they have updated just about everything in the new 360's. Even the controllers are better. MS refused to give me a new one everytime I got the red ring of death and now I guess I can see why. The numbers are out and only 16% of the original 360's worked off the line. I guess they have a ton of refurb units they have to get rid of. Such a stupid Corp culture when they have to spend 1 billion dollars to fix a mistake were they rushed it and tried to saved 2 million.
