I love sellspeople for me there all the same.
One secenrio for a gamestop is, I walk in look around they try to ask me for help I point at my ears and shake my head. Let them know im deaf then they walk away slowly.:P

I don't mean to be rude or anything but since your deaf when you game do you crank the volume (either with speakers or headphones) or do you just play with no sound? Cause I think without the sound it would take away the experience of some games, and definately make them harder
Usually when some clerk bothers me I say "No i am just browsing" and they usually leave me alone. Maybe the clerk who bothered you was making commission?

You don't need a piece of American ID either, at least in Canada you don't need a Canadian one to buy stuff. As long as there is something saying you're 17+ it's perfectly legal. What he should've done though is gone and found someone to say that they're his stepdad or something like that
I walk into Gamestop to look around.Right away, the gamestop dude says, hi, can I help you find anything? I said no, just looking. He then asks if I have any 360 game trades today(my hands were empty) I was looking at the 360 games at this point, thats why he asks about the 360 games. I said, No, I don't trade in games here. He then persists as to why? I told him that I didn't believe gamestop gave enough $$ or trade in credit. I sadi, for many 60 dollar games, you only give 20 trade in. Basically you get 1/3 of the value. He then began to argue that that was a great deal. I said I could get more on ebay or amazon. He then argued they charged. Ya, like 2 bucks I said. He then persisted to argue that giving 1/3 trade in for anything used was a great deal. At this point, I'm getting ticked off, finally I said, how much is your car worth. He said about 9000 dollars. I said I'll give you 3000 for it!!! He said no way! I said, wait a minute buddy, you just said getting 1/3rd the value was a great deal. I asked, would you take 1/3 trade in for your car at a dealership? He then shut his mouth and walked away.Spinbrett
No you didn't.
I tend to ignore sales men and if they percist, I tell them off in front of other people.EnigmaticBeautyTell them off? They are just trying to do their job.

Obviously you haven't been harassed by a sales person. It's fine if they ask if you need help with anything, but when you got those who are "very persistent",I just walk away and talk with another emplyee to piss him off
Lol, nice job. I dont know about your shop but I talk to most of the people who work at my local Gamestop so they know that I would know whatIm thinking aboutso they just ask me if I need help looking for it and thats all.

No not rude at all, Curoisty is a trait many lack these days. No I play without sound which is why games with subtitles is vital to the future for some people. As well I do not miss sound as it is something that is very lacking. In ASL alone most words are emotional based where in people who just talk and meet it is very quick and lack of emotions it seems. I suggest watching alot of deaf threathe or deaf movies. To compare how the world and emotional levels are compared to other flims.
For some games it does make it harder Perfect Dark Zero I had no idea what was going on and just gave up. But other games like Viva pinata it is not nearly bad at all. So it depends on developers rather or not they care about minority as well as the majoirty or not.

But trust me im just here to give advice and get advice on games the same as all here.
:o wow... I'm impressed. I would think at this point, a deaf gamer (just like a blind gamer) would be having a lot of trouble with many of today's games. :o Particularly since I noticed you had R6:Vegas in your profile... how could you play something like that without being able to hear?Nope, I never meant to even imply to say that I fake that i am deaf. The point is, the customer can ask themselves if they want help or not. The whole point of being a sales assistant is to assist, not badger and interfere.EnigmaticBeauty
I work at gamestop. Its our Job!! You clearly must not understand that. If we don't make quota for the week we get badgered to death by our bosses... and then lose are job. I don't bother any of my customers when I ask if they need help. I give them clear explanations about games and anything else they need. I don't BullSh*t them.
I can understand alot of people know what there looking for and know alot about games. But not everyone does and we don't know. Damn it makes me wonder if people like you would last in any retail positions at all. Maybe it's just a crappy Gamestop.

It is getting harder in some games, With Rainbow 6 i play co op with friends as playing online was next to impossible because most would just kick me out. So I mostly just stick to my friends list. Luckily I can still see the screen and I still have my hands =p. I guess it is odd to really give a accurate account of how odd it is for me to play when its something im used to.
Only advise I can give is try to turn off your volume while you play a game and notice how the game gives slight shadowing problems or maybe a tiny detail in the left of the bar gives the npcs away more then you would just focus on the sound.

completely off topic but the girl that works at my local gamestop is fine as hell! i hope she bothers me...
now bak on topic: you should actually get to know some of the people that work there, as soon as u go in talk to them, it may seem wrong but you actually get better deals there if you dont look like gamestop newbie. i remember wen i first went to gamestop and traded in 4 games and the guy said 16 dollars! i was like "hell naw!" and then my mom argued wit them and i got 47 dollars! true story... see, a little cuban attitude goes a long way in america!
(by the way im cuban so i dont wanna hear any "YOU'RE RACIST!!!" comments, itz just jokes ppl...)
I used to be the store manager of a GameStop store here in Des Moines, IA. I personally found it quite amusing when people would complain about the trade-in value of their game. I encouraged several people to see what the trade-in value would be at Best Buy or Wal-Mart across the street.septemberluc
did you encourage them to find out they could easily get twice your trade in value on ebay?

Absolutely. Ebay, or even selling the game outright to a friend is an excellent option.
The fact is that most the people who work for GameStop (with the exception of the people in the corporate office, which is located in Grapevine, Texas) know full well that the trade-in value is just about a joke. But people need to stop and think of what video game life was like BEFORE stores like GameStop. What did you BEFORE these stores existed when you were finished with a video game and had no desire to play it again? That's right; you let it sit there on your shelf collecting dust. You had to pay FULL price for EVERY game you bought.
So now people want to complain about not getting ENOUGH for their trades. The fact of the matter is that video games do NOT have a good risidual value. It IS similiar to buying a car. I bought a 2007 Ford Mustang GT afew months ago for $31,000. How much do you think I would get if I took that car right back to the dealership I bought it from, now that it has 11,000 miles on it? Sure, they'd turn around and sell it for a few thousand dollars more than they give me for it, but I understand that that is how car dealerships stay in business.
Stores like GameStop stay in business through their Used games/accessory/system sales. Stores like Best Buy and Wal-Mart stay in business because of EVERYTHING else they sell.
Also, people need to understand the whole "Supply/Demand" issue when it comes to used games. If GameStop and EB have already been bombarded with trade-ins of a certain game and have a ridiculous amount of backstock of a certain used title, they are NOT going to give you what you would consider a "great" trade-in value, knowing that those games that they gave people $30 in store credit for will be selling used for $24.99 in a few months.
In closing, I just want to say that I think the reason I left GameStop was because I got sick and tired of waiting for that one magical customer to say "Man, you guys are offering me WAY TOO MUCH money for this game!"

I agree with you there, I ussaly trade in games/systems when i just want to sell it quickly and be done with it. When I got my 360 I sold my ps2 and gamecube and there collection so i can stay with one console for convince when i move. My friend at gamestop helped me and just made it so simple and at the end I had 200 in trade in maybe i could have got 300 on ebay but the convince with my friend at gamestop made me do it there.

Have you ever worked in retail? Just taking a shot here, but I'd say no. Employees are FORCED to be pushy and seemingly clueless as to when to stop. The reason I quit working retail. It's completely stupid, but it's business, and it works. If employees don't meet a certain amount of reserves they get penalized. Yes, things SHOULD be the way that you say they should be, but that's not the way businesses are ran, get used to it or buy online.
