Yeah, that's what us on the outside call "theft".
It doesn't matter if you replaced it with your own, you still stole his property, which is a felony.
its not a felon ...
I wouldnt confess you will probably get in more trouble
but yeah the serial number thing I dont remember how they do it but he should still be able to get it fixed - better yet where did he buy it? tell him to return it to them (walmart will exchange and gamestop if he bought the warrenty - gamespot probably checks serial number but walmart wont)
Nice plan but that is kind of a dick move. You will be overcome with guilt. He cant get a new Xbox because his name wont match up with his serial number on his xbox and all that so he wont be eligible for another xbox. It might be a good idea to tell him of what you did. That is just my opinion though.IMonKIThat's not true. If the original poster's console was new when he bought it, MS won't know who originally bought it.
So my xbox360 was acting all screwy with rebooting and not letting me eject discs. So this kid that I hate had invited me over and I still hated him. (I went because I didn't want to be mean, so I gave him a chance) Then I came up with a great idea. I hate this guy and he has a 360 just like mine except his is only 3 weeks old. So he invites me over again and I take my 360 in a backpack and act like I brought controllers and a game in it, but I also brought my 360. I switched mine with his and within a week he got the Rrod. At first I couldn't stop laughing about and thought it was hilarious, but then I started feeling like a horrible person. I really don't regret it though. I'll probably get rrod because of karma. Well that's my story. Call me an ass if you like.SirCokerThe9th
karma only effects you in your NEXT life :)

Oh yeah true that. My bad, I wasnt thinking right.
It would be funny if he was on GS reading this lol. But, even though I know you won't return it, the best thing to do is to give it back. Karma is real man.
I got my xbox360 by using my mom's credit card and buying it at walmart. When it arrived, my mom said just keep it since my birthday was 2 days later. Then, 2 days later, I got the RROD. But, the bright side is, after i saw the RROD I closed my xbox, tapped it twice, and then it started working again. That was 7 months ago(the 28th makes it the 7th month) though lol. GOOD LUCK!

Thats pretty funny, I just recently suggested my friend doing that as well. And my friend I suggested to do it to is also my friend, he dosen't even use his and wouldn't realise the switch. One of them has RROD and my other friend has XBL Gold and was only used about once or twice when I went over. lol.GameMasterCraig
Good friends.
yer a horrible person.
its not funny not fuuny at all. he can't get his 400$ back because its not his 360 so he can't trade it in
nice going man hope you live with yer self
You have one of two choices, as I see it.
1. Ignore your conscience and keep the console. A word of warning on this option, however - shearing your conscience will not serve you well in the future. If you can put your guilt aside, you will learn that you are capable of more and more deplorable acts.
2. Fess up. This is the option that I would choose. You freely admit that you wronged somebody. You must do the right and mature thing and take ownership of what you did. It will be a very hard thing to do, but this lesson in integrity will take you far. Yes, you messed up. Rather than having to live with that mistake, take the time an make it right. Maybe you'll have to face some uncomfortable consequences, but trust me, it's better than your guilt.
I have to admit that when I first read this story, I got a good chuckle out of it. But seriously, that's not right, and you should follow some of the fatherly advice of one of the other posters on this thread.
