call microsoft ask for manager right away don't even bother with the people who read from a book, Argue with the manager to issue a refund or you will call your credit card company to avoid the transaction and will never support microsoft again.

Just call up Microsoft Xbox support. I've had some run-ins like this before and about twenty minutes on the phone each time has saved me tons of time and money in the long run. Their customer service is actually pretty good.

No, you didn't tell it not to renew

The message came up and you were given a chance to renew AT THAT POINT IN TIME, you declined.

If your account was set to auto renew that still means it would renew when your Live subscription was up

Do yourself a favor and understand what the terms are next time you sign up for something, this one is 100% your fault. Maybe you'll have someone at Microsoft help you for messing up but if they don't take this as a lesson to actually read what you're doing.

You have to actually have your account setup to not renew. I think you can do this on xbox.com by changing your subscription settings.

Then why did it not clearly state this? As it merely said would you like to have your subscription renewed yes or no. The least they could do is say that futher action is required to cancel your subscription.

They say that when you sign up, again, you didn't read what you signed up for.

When they asked you if you wanted to renew at that point you said no, that does nothing to change the fact that you were signed up to have the account renew automatically later down the line.

Welcome to the wonderful transaction-riddled "gaming" world that Microsoft envisions. Consider this your baptism.
You used to be able to cancel auto-renew via the xbox website, but they removed that in order to trap more people into auto-renewing.
I suggest you get some tea or coffee before you call the extortion box live service, because you're in for a looooooong call if you simply want to cancel it. I've read people going at it for days or even weeks, but if you threaten with cancelling your XBL account alltogether...they'll start the sweet-talk. Good luck.

And ditch that bastard of a console and get a PS3 or a gaming rig. Good luck.

Jason, perhaps you got a different popup. I am looking at it on my TV now and it says: Your Xbox Live Gold Membership will expire on 3/18/12. Do you want to set your membership to automatically renew? (Yes/No). That says nothing about renewing now. It speciffically asked for preference in auto-renewal. I'm glad I searched and found this thread before just clicking No. I was debating my budget and realized the only thing Live Gold gave me not handled otherwise was Multi-player and that is something I never use and only a few times by friend/family. If I had just clicked No on that screen and I got re-billed anyway it would not be 100% or even 1% my fault. Because I read this thread I logged into my account on their site where I was greeted with: You have no valid payment options on file. It said Expiry Date: 9/30/2009 Really? I've been a member for 5 years and I know on my tight budget everytime my membersip came out (ouch especially after the 10 buck increase last time). but it says that they are going to re-bill my supposed no payment options for 3 years again on the 18th. Really? I can't turn off automatic renewal either through the box OR in my account at their site. I have to call them... Great, in the middle of not 1, but 2 extended hell weeks I've got to find time to deal with that. Your response to the guy asking for help was so misdirected. Please be a little kinder and remember there anomalies (and sometimes changes) in all of our tech that even the geekiest of us who think we know it all haven't seen ;).

This is one reason why I don't have any credit card information in my xbl account and strictly stick to live cards for renewals and points. Like everyone said though, call microsoft support and try to be friendly, they've always helped me whenever I've had a problem.

This is good advice. I've used only Live cards for points. Before this I always had the option of changing my account type and payment method via online so I never changed that (every year I planned to look for a Live Gold card special and switch to that but never got around to it before renewal time, lol). The change that requires a phone call to change re-billing was probably in the mile long new TOS I breezed through a bit back while guests were waiting to play with my Kinect :O ( I _ass-u-me-d_ it was privacy policy and other CYA updates like a bunch of my other online services have had me agree to recently). My day has ended after midnight. Hopefully I can find time to be on hold to stop re-billing tomorrow...

You have to select turn auto renew off. Apparently they have the option now on xbox.com, there is also a weird way some MLG site had up to get it off. Something about setting your location to Chicago, etc.

I have it off, but I get to the general page here...

https://live.xbox.com/en-US/Account?xr=mebarnav

I have no idea if that will translate and work.

Jayson doesn't know how to use tact or how to be nice to others on these forums. A quick look at his post history will show you he is an elitist troll, that feels his opinion is the only right one.

Some of you guys are not reading.... What the original poster and I are referring to are NOT emails. We were also not greeted with offers to renew AT THIS POINT in time. We got a message through the box informing us that our subscription was ending and asked if we wanted auto-renewal or not. If we said "No", how is there any justification for being re-billed? When I told the poster above that I owed them alt least one beer, it was because the link he provided got me to a setting to turn off re-billing while the link offered through the box wanted me to call them to stop re-billing. I took a screenshot of my re-billing being off thanks to his link. If I get re-billed anyway I will send that pic during any charge back. I doubt Microsoft is scamming renewals. As a past Alpha and Beta tester I can tell you rarely any left or right hand there knows what the other is doing ;) .

Read my posts above... he is not responsible for "this problem".
