I can't wait for the 65nm due to a good deal I'm going to get, but if I get any ol' Premium from a store, what are the chances it'll die? How long of a warranty does MS have? Do they fix it/replace/give you something refurbished or new?

Should I wait, even if I can get one for about $274?

Also, Is there a specific lot number/manufacture date I should be warned about?

I would say that the console is likely to die but then again you have the 3 year warantee which covers the three red lights and 1 year warantee for all other issues.

It was researched a while ago 30% of all 360s failed, and my elite failed3 days ago(RRoD :( ), but like kashim says the warranty is there... so why not take the risk?

Just get a 360 if you want one so bad. Get it at a store where you could buy an instore warranty, than if it dies, just give it back to them and they should just give you a new one. M$ has warranties but it's slower since you have to ship them back.

This is so lame though having to worry about if your consoles going to die... things like this just didn't happen back in the NES and SNES days.

OMG, the 33% failure rate is based completely on a quote by ONE employee at Electronics Boutique. It is in NO WAY an official number or even an educated guess. Microsoft's officially announced failure rate is 3-5%. Remember...there are over 11 million 360's out there so even if you've seen 1,000,000 people whining about the RRoD...that's less than 10% of the user-base. It's a problem, but not nearly as bad assome forumites would have you believe.Linkedforproof.

Do you get your OWN console back from MS, or someone else's (refurbed)? I don't want someone elses...

Um why? You wouldn't be able to tell a difference, just keep your HD before sending it out. Also I heard the 360 elites manufactured in late June/July have the new chip and they'd probably be on store shelves in early August. That being said I just bought a elite and it was manufactured in June and it still gets really hot so idk...

nah man I wasn't aiming that at you :) Yea 5% is probably low...but the point is that only Microsoft has the real numbers. Every1 else's estimates mean precisely nothing.

Seriously. My SNES is 15 years old and still works fine. 360 has great games, but crappy HW. I guess that's why MS doesn't produce computer HW :P

You had to send them in, right? It's all free, too? Did you get your own console back or someone elses or just a new one?

Thanks

Same here, my SNES is as flawless as the first day I got it. No moving parts I guess make it almost undestructable.

Right now, elites won't fail as much, or might not even at all. Did they put the 65nm chips in new models yet?

most people who purchased a 360 has had it die from the RRoD, but with the new 3 year warranty I would go ahead and buy it if I were you.

if you can get a new prem from any store for 274, dont buy 1 buy all of them and make money on ebay. i bought 6 launch 360s, all are going strong, no problems. why buy 6? i didn't intend to. i entended to buy 4. but gamestop siad there wouldn't be a limit so order all 4 prems from them. the day before launch they told me there was a limit of 1, but since i had already paid off two they would let me have two. when i got there launch night they told me they would let me have two cores, on the condition i didn;t get money back, i could spend my "store credit" on more games. since i was buying them for christmas presents i bought 4. the hard drives i couldn;t find, so i bought two more after market. i didn't want any of my nephuews asking me why they got the core and their cousine got a prem, didn't i love them too. i ke[t a core (found a hdd at target later) and traded a core to a friend for an xbox1 and some games, and i gave him $100 to buy the hard drive.

long story short i made them all 4 (nephuews and friend)read the manual. all 6 are still working great. i kept 2 360s. the only thing that pisses me off about the 360 is giving them away i still have to mow my own lawn and wash my own car. with the consoles, controlers, and games i spent over $3,000 that christmas. and no i'm not rich

Well, I'll go ahead and buy it. Any tips/websites that show you how to maintain it/like where to keep it ventilated, etc.?
