Oh, and you're already complaining about Sony's mandatory firmware update. The Xbox never made any mandatory updates. And is the reason you refuse to update your PS3 because you're using homebrew? Sounds a lot like it..wwervin
There is no PS3 specific homebrew. Not yet, anyway. In any case, I'm just biding my time until geohot finally releases his OO firmware. If not for someone else to then finally break the thing wide open. My gripe is that Live still shoves ads on me whether I'm a paying member or not. If Microsoft made it so Gold members can turn off ads completely, or that Silver members can play online through said subsidies with those in-GUI ads, then that would be justification right there. I don't want **** ads on my **** console. Understand now? Buying a membership to make those ads go away would be worth it.

Thirdly, "so why the hell should I have to pay for that privilege?" Excuse me.. but what's with the attitude? Here's the deal buddy, you DON'T have to pay for the privelage. That's why I said in my first post "by all means go play a PS3." It wasn't a snide remark, it was the truth. If you don't want to pay for XBL then play a PS3 and you won't have to. Why are people on the internet so angry all the time? I don't understand it... you're a consumer, you pay for products that you want to purchase. I'm not here trying to spoonfeed you Microsoft's software. If you want to buy it you can, but don't come on here acting like a jack*** because you think they're stealing your money. You chose to purchase their product. If you don't think it's worth it then stop spending your money on it and stop complaining about it.wwervin
Hear Hear.
And by ads, I mean those that try to con me into giving out my credit card for live renewals (which I don't want Microsoft having in the first place), promoting avatar gear (which I don't care for) and those talking ads that show up specifically when you sign on from different 'sponsors' and companies (which usually just make me want to avoid whatever they're promoting rather than check it out). The only one even remotely relevant is for the weekly sales, but even those usually have games I don't really care for most of the time, or are promoting map packs for games I don't really play online to begin with. If I'm a paying (read: Gold) member, I should have the right to turn off all those ads, full stop. Or have those ads subsidize my access if I'm a silver member. I shouldn't have to pay to see ads, period. codezer0
You pay for cable right? But you don't complain that there are advertisements ,for say, building materials, right? This is the same. This service isn't for you only and its not intrusive, annoying or obligatory. You don't HAVE to look at the ads before playing a game or in loading screed. Besides most ads are like notices. I've only seen a few that actually do anything and only if you hover over them so stop whining. You don't have to pay to see ads anyway. Its there for everybody and I find it quite useful to know if a new DLC or theme just came out.

...the xbox would be perfect. I just send mine to microsoft because of, you guessed, that beautiful ,big, bright red ring. Anyways after I get it back it last for two months more or less I understand, is this true? Or is there anyone here that after sending it to microsoft, worked great? I hate microsoft for making us pay for xbox live when that should be free, ok, we pay the games, themes all that, but the online play too? NO FAIR

Hahaha When my xbox got the RROD I got a new xbox 360. So my xbox 360 will last a couple of years.

Well said. That's what I've been telling the guy, the ads are not intrusive and they're relevant to the Xbox. They're promoting games, dlc, deals on video games, E3, etc. It's not like you're sitting there watching Oxyclean commercials, and they never force you to view them. Somehow though, the guy's convinced that he shouldn't be spending money on Live.. and yet he continues to use the service. Not much to say to that. Like I said in my other post, if you don't like it, don't buy it.
