All i can say is wow............. one of the hardest games to complete, especially the very last mission aboard the plane, pretty much impossible, but i did it.
anyone have any horror stories to tell about their journey to beat COD4 on Veteran?

That was one of the easiest.
I planted claymores and c4 all around the north building and sat in a corner picking everyone off, then blew the c4 and darted to MacMillan with ease...
1000/1000
That was almost 2 months ago for me.
Trial and Error gameplay is easy.

Same here, trial and error.
signs the toughest part for me was holding your ground with macmillan waiting for the chopper to comexXtheabombXx
Same here. Besides that, I breezed through it. If you think beating this game on veteran is hard, it really isn't.
That part was really easy if you hid behind the bumper cars in prone. Besides the last mission i would say that the timed control room took me several tries to beat. Just like the man said its easy to play a game with trial and error using blunt force you just keep running and gunning untill you hit a checkpoint. If you have some balls try beating Lost Planet on the most difficult mode its like the last mission on Vet except that your not doing a 1 minnute mission over and over again your doing 30 minnute + missions repeativly.acesion
That's exactly what I did and it's weird that no one else ever thinks about doing that.
*Did not sign here*KittenNipplesAgreed. I beat it on normal and it was hella fun. I tried it again on veteran and made it through a few levels but gave up on it during the "charlie don't surf" level before I lost my sanity. No offense but one would have to be a fan of S & M to go through that kind of hell. I play games for fun not to boast about my virtual manhose.

loved every min of it, except the last mission on the airplane, which took me 4 hours and almost drove me insane.

Same here... Most of the game wasn't that bad, but this was frustrating no matter how I tackled it.
As someone said previously, "trial and error gameplay is easy" - that is quite true, because that is how it felt... Skill doesn't seem quite as important as patience and figuring out what is the smartest method of approaching things. He apparently figured out an effecient method of tackling the part we had trouble with.
I guess I should sign here since I did it too. I don't have 1000/1000 though - I am missing the one where you blow out all the TVs and the mile high club one.

Im on that very part of the game!
any tips? and I lost my sniper! I think I f'd up...

It doesnt really matter. Noone can get you inside the booth. Just lay down and cover the door cause a couple guys will try to get you, but its very simple. I threw the C4 around the cars so when i did detonate them it would explode the cars causing a larger explosion with a larger radius.
COD4 is a very different style of campain from Halo 3
the main point, getting chekpoints
the only mission i had trouble with was wen u had to lay tht guy besidethe ferris wheel and wait until those terrorists came in like a army and kill them all
i found that i shoould stay @ the bumper car area, place c4's on every car and claymores around tht guy.
on my 4th try i did it and im proud :P:P
the last mission wus a challenge aswell, ofcourse on veteran difficulty

playing through it on veteran now. funny how playing online has made such a difference to my campaign abilities. still, is damn hard.
i agree, its just a trial anderror but the last level took me a good 30min - 1 hour to complete and during the McMullen one i did the same as most of you did......which is hide behind the bumper cars and wait for the chopper to come.
also the level with inside the nuke facility was kinda hard, just took a little bit of time to master and the fact that the first 30 times that i tried it, i never got a checkpoint, but then all of a sudden on chance #31 i got a checkpoint and it made all the difference.
