I don't think any site actually reviews games they just use whatever score they think will get them the most hits. Like U.S. news stations. None of them report anything they just sensationalize to get better viewershipnosedive51that is stupid. gamespot's reviews are fairly accurate so i dont know what you are talking about
Why does gamespot go and give a game like Mass Effect 8.5. The game is a classic, their must be some people shaking their heads at gamespot, and going what did we just do. This is a joke and it makes Gamespot look bad.The gameshould have got a 9.5 or 10, I think its one of the greatest games every made.

An 8.5 is a great score for a great game with some flawslike Mass Effect. For me ME is the best game ever greated but the fact is that it's not perfect. ME deserves a 8.5 but lots of other reviews in GS are overrated. AC, while it's amazing does get repetitive real fast and deserves an 8, as do many other titles that GS gave a 9 or higher. So it's not the ME review that it bad, it's just that every other review too high.
To everyone defending Gamespot's score of 8.5:
Did you ever consider the fact that Eternal Sonata got the exact same score? It's a fun little J-RPG, but come on. It didn't do anything to move the genre forward or revolutionize the way the genre is played. That's why it deserves that score. Mass Effect has it's issues no doubt, however it has raised the bar for RPG's the world over. In areas of graphics, voice acting, story, and gameplay it has pushed real time RPG's to the next level. I personally feel Kevin really didn't recognize that in his review. He seems to enjoy light hearted RPG's more. He has the right. He can in fact rate a game however he so desires. I on the other hand feel the game deserves better, and I too am entitled to my opinion. BOOYAKASHA!
I've come to hate the fact that GS only does 8.0-8.5-9.0-9.5 ratings. Feels like a damn Play magazine review.
I also like to average out Gamespot & IGN's reviews. IGN tends to be more forgiving than GS across all platforms. As you can see, they game Mass Effect a 9.2 (I believe). That wasy if you think 8.5 was too harsh and 9.2 is too forgiving, 8.85 makes a nice middleground.
Of course, you can't let one persons review change the way you think about a game. That's all these reviews are - one man or one woman's opinion ona title.

They aren't forgiving they gave Assassin's Creed a 7.7. I played that game yesterday and let me tell you its way better than a 7.7.
Here.here..cheers!! So True that Gamespot ONLY ALLOWS 8.0 and Above Ratings...Take for example COD 4...As consumers to the "cause",our opinions should be valued as much regardless of a 7.0 score so to speak..where as, for those whopost an 8 and above, are sometimes ..blindedor brainwashed by all the Hype thats flooded this planet. Stay True.
[QUOTE="Gen007"]after just getting through the first 3 hours i have to say its at least a 9 only real prob ive had so far is the loading its so often and messes with the frame rate at timesAzelKosMos
That alone is enough to drop it below a 9 to me...
if you understood the depth of the game you'd understand that the frame rate isn't slowed that bad and the game is so vast

most intelligent point ever made on this website. well done. somtimes i dont even think they take into account passed scores. i cant stop playing this game and is an immersive experience to say the least. so much to do/see. Instant classic in my opinion and the most off a review score has ever been on this site. a friend of mine said they must be short staffed at GS or something. This Van nord guy did both AC and ME, and questuionable reviews for both, there is outrage for a reason, its because the population as a whole sees the games as better or worse when it comes to these 2 particular reviews. Most of the time i find that they complain about things in a review that i would have never noticed had i not read/watched the review, or didnt even happened when i played. like the bioshock freezing bug, never happened and i had30 hours in that game. multiple playthroughs. they are overly critical at this site. I always go to the meta review website and take all opinions into account. but i still know what games i want to play before any review ever comes out and have never been swayed either way. i just think this one (mass effect) review is comical.
I agree that GameSpot's reviews have become pretty rubbish.
ME got 8.5. That is a rather good score, yet when I watched the video review, the reviewer sort of managed to put a negative slant on it, and it's not the first time GS have done this.
Maybe they think they're "cool" for giving games lower scores than they deserve?
Anyway, I think Gametrailers are the most reliable. And their vid reviews are longer and less vague than GS. ME had a 10 min review!

How can you say it revoltionized RPGs? It was just released yesterday. You cannot base a review on a game about how it revolutionized RPGs until it actualy does have an impact on later games and therefore really has no impact on its rating.

Excuse me, but "a classic"? How can you say that? The game has been out for like 2 weeks. Doesn't "classic" involve age?
