Ok, I've waited long enough. I'm finally going to buy a 360, but I do have a couple of questions. I'm planning on getting this model. My main question is the quality of the provided headset. I've heard some mixed opinions about it. Also, I'm picking up the wireless N adaptor. I know it's going to vary from person to person but how is online gameplay using a wireless setup? Just looking for opinions.

The headset is good enough as long as you dont abuse it. I just recently got that same bundle but the mic on the headset doesnt work on live so I gotta send it in, but my previous headset from my old xbox still works good and it is over 2 yrs old. I cant comment on the wireless setup cuz I use a wired connection

The main complaint I've heard about the wired headset is how it makes it difficult to hear others because it's just too quiet. I guess I'll get it and see. It's not really a deal breaker I guess.

A new Elite owner myself. I also own the N adapter (with a G based router). My router is in the basement and my Xbox is on the second floor. I haven't experienced any lag while playing Modern Warfare 2. Competed in about 20 matches. Ping is 50. Wireless for the win. I did have trouble installing the firmware for the adapter. Simply connecting it does nothing (in my case). It also was read as a mixed media disc when I inserted it with the Xbox turned on. I then proceeded to put the disc in and turn off the Xbox. Restarted it and all was well.

The wired headsets seem to last longer than the wireless ones. Sometimes the wireless ones will last longer but both eventually die. I've been through about 4 or 5 Microsoft wireless headsets and they always seem to not turn on or charge. And yes I take very good care of my 360 and it's accessories. Stick with wired..you'll have less problems.

I tried using the one that came with my xbox 360 , but after awhile i just couldn't hear people while playing multiplayer games. I sprung the 60 bucks and bought a pair of turtle beach headsets and in my opinion it was a great investment.

Everything you have will work fine. In the future though some nice accesories would make it even better. I can't play/talk to people without using my Turtle Beaches now.

I use the wireless adapter for my 360, and it's alright. It's pretty much plug-n-play for me, I don't know if others found it difficult to setup. The range on it is decent, since I'll get almost full bars and I'm a floor above the router and on the other side of the house. It'll slow downoccasionally during online matches, but it's never noticeable enough to make me want to wire a CAT5 throughout the entire house.

I would recommend getting this bundle if you haven't bought a Gold subscription yet.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Live-Month-Messenger-Gold/dp/B001EKTF60/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1263180263&sr=8-1

I always thought the keyboard was a stupid accessory, but considering you get a spare headset, game, and keypad for only $10-20 more than you would for just the online subscription, it's a pretty good deal. I would never spend $30 for the keypad at it's regular price, but I tried it out since it came with a bundle, and it just makes everything a lot easier to type out. Now I never play without it.

The headset that comes with the console works alright, but they are very, very fragile. I've gone through about 4 of them now, they do not take abuse well at all. If you want something that will last, you might look into off-brand headsets, since I've heard the wireless ones are just as crappy but cost twice as much as the wired ones.

This... If you read product reviews they say the same thing after awhile it wont take a charge. Great sound quality but build quality is horrible....

The headset is rather quiet, though as long as you're not playing your TV loud as hell, you'll be able to hear people. The headset holds together reasonably well. As you say, if you find the stock mic unsatisfactory, then you can investigate third-party alternatives.

the wireless N router is quick and easy to use, and increased wireless performance (over my old xbox wireless router) but has one downfall: Random disconnecting. It has happened, although infrequently now (it's been about 2-3 since purchase) and connects back without having to unplug the router and reset blah blah blah, so its not too much of an inconvenience. im happy with the purchace except it was a tad expensive. enjoy ur xbox!

-also the headset is decent enough for you to not need the wireless one

I've owned the N adapter since 12/22 and have played the Xbox almost daily. Haven't experienced any disconnects as of yet. Must be luck of the draw.

The headset works well. I use a wireless connection for online and it's fine.

Most Xbox products are luck of the draw. I'm serious too.

its plenty loud. my hearing isnt the best and i can still hear every one just fine. my only problem is my dog thinks its her chew toy. she ate the foam stuff off the head set and where you talk into.so make sure you put it up so a dog dont eat it or someone step on it. cause they get broken pretty easy.

good job, I would say that one of my best gaming decisions was getting a 360. The Headset isnt really that bad, its a bit uncomfortable at times. The wireless N adapter I really dont know how it is but i hear they have cancelled the old version anyway so what are you gonna do. I like my Wireless G or B, i cant remember what it is right now, but hell its worth it where set up space is concerned.

I have heard that sometimes to fix this problem is as easy as telling your router to keep open certain ports, there is a whole guide to it on the x-box help page.

Here is what I don't understand. Why not get a wireless router and put your modem and router next to your Xbox and have your PC wireless? Wireless connections for online gaming is not stable enough. My modem and router is right in my entertainment stand with my 360 and PS3 connected. Also had my Wii in there too at one point. Much better results than using the wireless adapter which I have connected to my second Xbox upstairs and I could play some games but most of the time it wasn't great.

I think the headsets are fine but they do break sooner than later if you play a lot. I have gone through a couple. I have a wireless headset but don't care for it. It would make a lot of noise and I would have to shut it off and on in the middle of matches. I can't remember if it had a mute button or not.
