Itd be possible, but it would be more expensive than a PS3, and unable to play games from the drive. Would be kinda pointless.teebeenz
While I agree on the 1st 2 points (although it wouldn't be MUCH more expensive than a PS3), the last point isn't true. As a part of the spec, all HD-DVD players must be backwards compatible with SD-DVD. Therefore the drive would be able to play normal game discs as well.
Not going to check the link, as I think it would make more sense to drop the price off the add-on than to force it into a new console model. I mean, seeing how you can get full stand-alone players for $250 with free movies, and it has to have a processor, graphics chip, ram and so on instead of just a plain HD-DVD drive like for the 360, so why does MS charge $180 for it?
It would be sweet if they dropped it to $100 with five free movies.

You'd be better off getting one of the toshibas. Probably playback HD-DVDs better and they are one of the best upconverters of DVDs on the market.
I'd rather have it a seperate unit, like it currently is. After unfortunally owning almost every game system since the Atari 2600, all optical game systems have eventually broke from a bad/low output laser. By having 2 drives, it splits the play load between 2 drives - depending on what your playing/watching.
Another plus is that you can use the HDDVD drive on your computer to watch HD movies.
The down side I see is the limited capacity of the DVD9 drive size limitation for future games. On the plus side, the 360 is easy to code games, and developers are finding new ways of saving disc space. When they were in beginning development of the 360, they made sure it was easy to code games for it. Microsoft didn't want to create another Dreamcast ( a good game system, but a nightmare to code games).

I ment there would be no HDDVD games, obviously itd play DVD games duh.Itd be possible, but it would be more expensive than a PS3, and unable to play games from the drive. Would be kinda pointless.teebeenz
HDDVD drives can read DVD's the only thing is if they planned on using it for games and not just movies everyone with a 360 would have to buy a new one so this is very unlikely to happen.
Kind of pointless really, shops simply aren't selling them, not in many i've seen. I went to HMV in Lakeside and the Bluray section was about 3-4 times bigger than HD.illbitcrusher
same here
Microsoft is in a pretty nice spot right now. They have a console that is lacking an internal HD drive and for that reason they can sell it cheaper than the PS3.Large_SodaOnly 50bucks cheaper, and the equiv PS3 has BD, wifi and an HD. Im expecting they'll drop the price soon enough or that unit simply wont sell.

Correction every1 with a 360 would have to buy a new HD-DVD drive.. If that happens and MS doesnt make the hddvd 100 bucks or cheaper and/or a way to connect it to PC.,.. I will be MAD!!

It's really not that relevant in this discussion, but the 40GB PS3 does not have Wi-fi or any backwards compatibility. The $499 version is the most comparable system in terms of specs.

The 40gb does have Wi-fi

The $499 version is the most comparable system in terms of specs.Large_SodaIt does have Wifi and it does have BC, it works with all PSX titles and adding in PS2 titles at a later date isnt hard, half the emulation is already done in software if they make it 100% in software then they all get it.
Here is a different link about the same thing. Not sure if it is credible. If this is true, how do you think current 360 owners will react, and do you think it would effect sales since people might wait for this Xbox? Im not bad mouthing the 360, just curious on thoughts if this turns out to be true. It makes it sound like it would have almost all the same functions as the Ps3. espically the removeable hard drive to make it easier to upgarde like a pc/ps3. I wonder if this will still be (if true) a 360, or if it will be called something else.

Well, color me wrong. Not to point fingers, but the mentioned on The Hotspot this week that the 40GB does not have wireless. At least that's what I remember hearing.
Thanks for the update.

You can already connect the current HDDVD drive to your PC. You just have to pay for the HD version of some DVD watching software (eg: PowerDVD) to watch movies. Drivers are available for XP and built into Vista.
[QUOTE="Large_Soda"]The 40GB model doesn't have BC. Are we talking about the same thing?teebeenzIt does. The 40 runs all PSX titles, PS2 titles however wont run till the 100% software emulation is done.
Hmmm. Well on the site linked to earlier is clearly shows the 80GB model as having BC and it says nothing about it for the 40.

I cant understand why anyone would doubt this. It is going to happen. If you read the various articles about this, it is a brand new device, not just a 360 with a HD/DVD drive in it. It may even have Toshiba's name on it! destef
I bought the first Toshiba HD-DVD player HD-A1 for $500, and oddly enough the HD-DVD drive in it has the name NEC on it, it's practically a PC drive.
