Kind of pointless really, shops simply aren't selling them, not in many i've seen. I went to HMV in Lakeside and the Bluray section was about 3-4 times bigger than HD.

Itd be possible, but it would be more expensive than a PS3, and unable to play games from the drive. Would be kinda pointless.

While I agree on the 1st 2 points (although it wouldn't be MUCH more expensive than a PS3), the last point isn't true. As a part of the spec, all HD-DVD players must be backwards compatible with SD-DVD. Therefore the drive would be able to play normal game discs as well.

Not going to check the link, as I think it would make more sense to drop the price off the add-on than to force it into a new console model. I mean, seeing how you can get full stand-alone players for $250 with free movies, and it has to have a processor, graphics chip, ram and so on instead of just a plain HD-DVD drive like for the 360, so why does MS charge $180 for it?

It would be sweet if they dropped it to $100 with five free movies.

You'd be better off getting one of the toshibas. Probably playback HD-DVDs better and they are one of the best upconverters of DVDs on the market.

Microsoft should have included HD-DVD from the begining, by the end of this generation, most games will probably be on multiple disks, and that would be annoying...

I'd rather have it a seperate unit, like it currently is. After unfortunally owning almost every game system since the Atari 2600, all optical game systems have eventually broke from a bad/low output laser. By having 2 drives, it splits the play load between 2 drives - depending on what your playing/watching.

Another plus is that you can use the HDDVD drive on your computer to watch HD movies.

The down side I see is the limited capacity of the DVD9 drive size limitation for future games. On the plus side, the 360 is easy to code games, and developers are finding new ways of saving disc space. When they were in beginning development of the 360, they made sure it was easy to code games for it. Microsoft didn't want to create another Dreamcast ( a good game system, but a nightmare to code games).

I ment there would be no HDDVD games, obviously itd play DVD games duh.

HDDVD drives can read DVD's the only thing is if they planned on using it for games and not just movies everyone with a 360 would have to buy a new one so this is very unlikely to happen.

Microsoft is in a pretty nice spot right now. They have a console that is lacking an internal HD drive and for that reason they can sell it cheaper than the PS3. Why bundle it in and charge more for it?

If they keep it separate then anyone that wants the add-on can get it and anyone who doesn't want it can skip it.

Yet another SKU to have would just be silly.

If true, this would be an interesting move. Microsoft would easily rob Sony of what PS3 adopters wanted in the PS3, assuming the price is right. The competition would become so close, that Microsoft's 11 million over Sony's 4.5 million would truly make all the difference.

It's really not that relevant in this discussion, but the 40GB PS3 does not have Wi-fi or any backwards compatibility. The $499 version is the most comparable system in terms of specs.

It does have Wifi and it does have BC, it works with all PSX titles and adding in PS2 titles at a later date isnt hard, half the emulation is already done in software if they make it 100% in software then they all get it.

Here is a different link about the same thing. Not sure if it is credible. If this is true, how do you think current 360 owners will react, and do you think it would effect sales since people might wait for this Xbox? Im not bad mouthing the 360, just curious on thoughts if this turns out to be true. It makes it sound like it would have almost all the same functions as the Ps3. espically the removeable hard drive to make it easier to upgarde like a pc/ps3. I wonder if this will still be (if true) a 360, or if it will be called something else.

If it was going to ever happen, the Elite would have been it. Instead of putting a $180 Hard Drive, they could have left it with the 20 Gig and put in the $180 HD DVD player in the console.

Even if it is true, they will still be selling models without it built in. Not having it built in to begin with gave them a significant price advantage, which has really paid off so far.

You can already connect the current HDDVD drive to your PC. You just have to pay for the HD version of some DVD watching software (eg: PowerDVD) to watch movies. Drivers are available for XP and built into Vista.

Thats referring to PS2, not both PS2 and PSX. PSX is 100% software, PS2 hasnt made the full software jump yet, tho id say it probably will before long.

I cant understand why anyone would doubt this. It is going to happen. If you read the various articles about this, it is a brand new device, not just a 360 with a HD/DVD drive in it. It may even have Toshiba's name on it!

I bought the first Toshiba HD-DVD player HD-A1 for $500, and oddly enough the HD-DVD drive in it has the name NEC on it, it's practically a PC drive.

THough, seriously, MS wouldn't do this, they are already scalping us for high priced accesories like the 20gig HDD, wireless adapter. Why would they cripple their profit on the 360 by adding an HD-DVD that maybe only a fraction of people would use. Seeing how it can't be used for games, it's a wasted feature that costs money. They already have the add-on for those that want HD-DVDs, no need to do anyhting more than that but drop the price over time. Their customer base would be more happy with another 360 price drop than to pay for an HD-DVD drive they may or may not use.
