The short answer is no. You cannot even use a HDMI cable unless you have a television or receiver that accepts it. The benefit of a HDMI cable is that both audio and video are transmitted through the cable so you do not have multiple cables cluttering up your setup. Also you cannot get 1080p upscalling (without certain specific televisions) without HDMI (component will only do 720p which is what the Xbox 360 runs in naitively anyway). Hope this helps.
No, you can get HD with Component Cables as well. Some older 360 models do not even have an HDMI port... HDMI is a digital connection that carries sound and picture, but on most HDTVs you wont' notice a difference between the two, though most component connections will support 720p and 1080i.
Like they both said you really dont need them its nice to have if your tv has 1080p resolution, if your tv is 720p then you can do either component or hdmi so if you go component with your 720p television then it wont matter in the slightest
You dont need one....but if you use other systems (i have a ps3 hooked up to my tv also) i have compent and hdmi so i never had to go behind the tv and i can just change the mode
I've had better resolution with HDMI cables. It might have something to do with upconverting. My TV is a 720p plasma.
HDMI cables aren't expensive, so it's not like you would be wasting your money. I bought three 3' cables from woot for $3 a piece. Just be careful where you shop... Best Buy has HDMI cables on their shelves for $40, but I'm not sure if many people realize you can get them online much cheaper.
I have used the vga, hdmi and component cables on my 1080p plasmaand the difference is really negligible. Personally I like to use to the vga because I only have2 hdmi ports and one component and the ps3 and my blueray player take up the hdmi and the wii takes up my component.
Just checked I do have an extra hdmi... But why change it haha.
