i would say that the games are too different to compare really, even thos they are both shooters, there are just too many things that are different.
I think Halo 3 will be better. The final graphics are still up in the air but Halo 3 will have better story, more weapons, more vehicles, and the best online system.
I dont care much for Halo 3 so I won't even get it until a while after it comes out, but anyway its all a matter of opinion, some will prefer gears, some will prefer Halo.
By the way, it will probably score above a 9 because of all the hype....
in my oppinion, no. Played halo 3 beta, and the multiplayer already kicks gears's ass. Even halo 2 did. It's also a fact that gears of war has these glitched, lag, host etc... and ranked really isn't enjoyable anymore. It's only fun with friends. Halo 3 has vehicles, and IMO overall better gameplay. I rated gears a 9.8 back in the day, cause back then, i loved it. I still love halo 2 after 2 and a haf years, and halo 3 isn't going to be anything different. It's my oppinion, don't blame me for having it.
i used to love gears (back when i could play ranked with my friends) but now i just recognize it as a good game. halo is a great game that i still play (with or without my friends) halo 3 with be LEAST a 9.0 off of name alone.and the only reason that is not goin to rated as high as halo 1 or gears is because its a sequal (or whatever you call the third edition)
Based on the BETA having almost identical gameplay to Halo 2 in addition to some fine tune-ups, H3 isn't that different from H2 at all. If you are expecting something totally new and different from H3, then don't get your hopes too high. Gears sequels will own Halo sequels.

what do you think gears will do different? alot you to play with your friends? (which halo does already)Â the reason it is like halo 1 and 2 is because those were both great games, why change teh formual of sucess?
in my opinion... GoW is better looking visually while playing than what the Halo 3 videos show. But i'm sure any Halo fan out there will disagree on this and start a flame war. And of course Halo 3 will sell like hot cakes because it carries the Halo title. GoW didn't have this advantage so we'll see how GoW2 sells.
These comparison threads are like asking thousands of people simultaneously - " do you like dry bread or toast?".....and then expecting some sort of rational reason why. People have different opinions and mine is that GOW has already proven that you dont need 10 hundred different gamemodes to keep people entertained due to the lack of gameplay a game has. A great game should be able to run on 2 main gamesmodes - obviously variety is nice, but how great must gears be to be the success it is with 2 main gamemodes? You cannot take that away from EPIC. Personally, Halo 3 is a load of hyped up childsplay... and i think its time as a great game has come and gone. many people still like, but i think your clinging onto the name more than anything....because its just halo2 with sharper grpx. But thats just my opinion. If you like it, when it comes out go buy it....im not gonna cry or anything :cry:
I don't think you can really compare Gears to Halo. They are two dramatically different games. I think you are better off comparing Halo 3 to UT3. You compare Gears to games like R6V or GRAW.
That's my opinion. Now, do I think UT3 will be better than H3? Oh, I believe so. But, time will tell.
I'm not a fanatic of either games but i can say that while i thought GEARS single player was great and might be hard t top, i couldn't stand the MP portion. 4 on 4 is weak, the levels were confining and the people chasing achievements just mad the game a pain to play.
so Halo 3's MP is probably going to win, add the fact that the campaign is more diverse and i'll have to give the edge to Halo
I don't pretend for a minute the graphics are comparable and accept Gears takes the genre forward but when push comes to shove and I have the choice of one vs the other in MP I go for Halo 2. Sorry but for me it is true.
gears of war was amazing! But above its great game play and graphics it was also something completely new. Halo, despite is merits, gets boring and repetitive with each play. the only thing that saved 2 was the multiplayer. I think gears will be the number one shooter on xbox for a long time
people over look games like Assassin's Creed and DMC4 and BioShock for Halo 3 which will just be a shower clean up to Halo 2; and hopefully not a mexican shower...
Sorta off topic, but what is the storyline of the halo series?? Please be kind in your response. I am one of the few who have never played halo before.
Ok Gears of War was a great fun game. It had fun multiplayer, awesome single player and great graphics. It was almost like the new Halo. But it did have some flaws like glitches and some other things and Halo 3 is fun, Ive played the BETA, has awesome multiplayer good graphics, weapons and vehicles. Its sort of a tie because GoW has awesome weapons but Halo has awesome vehicles, Spatan is bada$$ and so is Marcus, and thats why its like a win win. Both are totally cool, tight, awesome , a$$ kicking sweet out of this world games.:)
Probably not. Gears graphically looks better,..oh it its got blood which is cool for a miute or two but doesn't hold up too well in the long run. Halo looks to be a more complete package with both single and MP being good too.
So far right now all halo 3 really needs to improve on is graphics the explosions look real nice but the graphics are just not up to Gears of War yet but heck its a beta and they have till september, so to answer the question yes Halo 3 will be better because it has better online because it has respawning, thats the only part I get sick of in Gears of War is not being able to respawn. Great games the both of them but the story in Halo 3 will be better and in the end make Microsoft alot of money.
