Is Halo one of the greates game series? *READ BEFORE POSTING*

Halo set a benchmark for console FPS, but its not the greatest shooter, however it is revolutionary in some aspects.

Deus Ex, System Shock/Bioshock and the Half Life games, have much better single player in my opinion, Halo 1 for its time was and still is pretty epic, but Halo 2 and 3 didnt change much.

If you ask me, Halo 2 and 3 are not that much of a big improvement, Halo 3 online is great though, very well ballanced and one of the best multiplayer online shooters, but the single player isnt exactly revolutionary its only due to the fact it has co op, some nice level design and a nice art style it isnt totally mediocre.

The massive sales of all three games speak to the popularity of the series. So in a way it is the greatest.

Personally I disliked the first two and the third one was only fun in multiplayer. It's not the greatest IMO but I can't deny it's one of the greatest.

I liked the first one best, and I never got tierd of it. 2nd was dissapointing. the third is good. imo ofcourse

Halo is a great series and definantly has earned its place

But the best?

Half Life, Starcraft, Mario, Zelda, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Final Fantasy and many more have all earned the right to be worthy of that same title.

And as much as im a Halo fan, i dont think its the greatest franchise.

Halo 1 was near perfection

Halo 2 was MP perfection but a meh single player

Halo 3 was Halo 2 MP being perfected but missing the great maps, and Halo 1s single player but missing the overall grand finish.

Were all 3 worthy of scores above 9 yes. But part of that is because they are so feature loaded and just built to be a long run game. THere instant wow factor isnt there, with the exception of Halo 1.

Where as Mario Has had many moments to wow us with Mario Bros. 1, Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, Mario 64, and more recently SUper Mario Galaxy.

Its a great trilogy, maybe the best. But not the greatest game series.

no otgher game out there u can have so much fun with online with frineds and u can can even have link up partys with like 10 ppl bring out the chips and beer

I love the series, its not THE greatest but its is awsome. Halo3 was a bit disappointing at parts but as a whole the series was freaking awsome. Back when Halo: Combat Evolved came out it rocked the world and the other Halo games went triple platinum before they even came out. You simply cant say that is all hype. It is one of the greatest game series of all time but not the best YET. The series even has a history to it and books written about it, it has its own freakin Wikipedia article on it! The term Halo app is not for nothing.

i'm just gonna break out a couple of things that ppl seem to forget. one is that if it wasn't for halo, the xbox would have bombed, and bombed harder then any platform in existence, it is the reason as to why you are playing and enjoying your 360 now. and seconed of all, halo standardized over half of the aspects of modern console FPS's, from the control layout, to the regenerating health, to weapon management. i'm not saying that you have to like it. i'm just saying that ppl should show a lil more respect, not just for halo, but for all things gaming in general. simply becuase there is a difference between not liking somthing, and being totaly ignorant towards the situation.wreak

Seriously...how can u even compare Halo to the Tom Clancy games and call them same old, same old. It's called tactical combat, gadgets, different ways to take your enemies down, different approaches to the same situation. And what is Halo....run, gun, jump, run, gun, jump.....yea, real innovative. The only credit I can give Halo is the way that that they mapped out the controls for FPS games and the regenerating health...big deal....

its up there but halo 3 single player seemed the same thing. i didn't like the story line there r better story games... but its a must buy if u own a 360.iam2green

A must buy? If you have Halo 2, The Orange Box, Gears Of War, COD4, or Bioshock you do NOT need Halo 3.

because there has only been 1 gears of war, and i dont like half llife and cod1-3 i would say halo is the best shooting franchise ever, but nintendo has so many amazing series that its hard to call halo the best everdiablofan02

Halo series is definitely up there with some of the greats.

halo 1 awesome game that proved console shooters could play just as well as there pc counter parts.

halo 2 a refinement of halo 1 but proved that online play on the console could be just as good as pc

halo 3 a further refinement of halo 2 but the forge and theater and how you can share it with everyone is truly an awesome feature in which more games on the xbox 360 should have

This is why i think the halo seriers is up there with the greats such as mario and zelda and mgs it is because the seriers has been about setting standards for console shooters.

I completly agree! I dont know if there is any game series that can actually be called "the best game series ever" because I dont think there really is one. There are just so many great game series you cant pick just 1 to be best.

I love the halo series but to be honest the first was my favorite, it provided more hours of entertainment then the other two squeals combine for me. I enjoyed the second on-line until xmass in which so many little kids got their hands on it...... That and they gave every one a battle rifle-noob gun that i utterly hate, ruined the balance for me and i stopped playing all together. When i played the halo 3 beta my hopes were high they added my favorite assault rifle back into the game!!!!!!! grenade punching maniac again just like in halo combat evolved. Once i got the game however i found the story mode not as good as the first though the covenant was a great level and thus was still better than the halo2 single player. The halo3 maps are horrible compared to the second, Valhalla or what ever it is called is not better than bloodgultch, only sandtrap allows me to play around with a brute-chopper...... but the game play was great, so i played it online like crazy and with the instant mute button i did not see any reason that i would stop playing it. That is until they added that stupid battle rifle, good long range and close!!!! it's not that fun to use and once you see an enemy the first one to shoot is most likely going to win, no dance of death or any skill involved with my trusty battle rifle ;) o and guess what my beloved assault rifle is now useless not any were near as power-full and has become obsolete....

- Don't get me wrong i loved the halo series and will still buy anything with it's bloody name on it for all the fun the first one provided with me :) I am however very glad to see the series end!! i can not take another disappointment like this again....

The Halo trilogy was fun and all, but now it kinda feels like Halo is losing its steam. Halo 3 is fun and everything but the Multiplayer doesnt feel as fun as Halo 2's was. and the campaign was decent but i wish it coulda been alot better and longer. Thanks Bungie for all those summer nights that Halo 2 kept me awake :)

im not being an xbox fanboy but i do think halo is up there

ive always wondered why people like Half Life, Super Mario, or The Legend of Zelda thought they were the greatest games ever

ive never really cared for them and yes i have played them all

but halo for me was always easy to like and always fun to play
