Yes, it is one of the greatest game series ever. The greatest, no, but it's up there. Even if people despise the game, they have to give it props, because it's changed the way an FPS should be played. Plus, it's sales speak for themselves. You can't deny that it's not unbelievably successful.
The Halo trilogy was fun and all, but now it kinda feels like Halo is losing its steam. Halo 3 is fun and everything but the Multiplayer doesnt feel as fun as Halo 2's was. and the campaign was decent but i wish it coulda been alot better and longer. Thanks Bungie for all those summer nights that Halo 2 kept me awake :)

I know exactly what you're talking about. It's the maps that ruined the Halo 3 experience. It's the maps.
Halo 1 was fun because it was the first split screen co-op shooter. it was new and i had some fun with it. Halo is absolutley the worst series i have ever played. i honestly cant say enough bad things about Halo 2 and Halo 3. They are boring and the gameplay is horrible. i made a mistake and bought Halo 3 and i hate it. i wish i could get my $60 back. i dont understand why anyone would enjoy these games. i also cant understand how they were rated so high. you sit there and you shoot the same guy for 5 minutes and then he just jumps around like an idiot. Gears of War is the best game ever made on any console. it has great visuals and the gameplay is perfect. this is a perfect game and this will be the best game series. Once again Halo is Horrible.
In terms of greatest series of all time, it would probably be either Halo or Mario. In terms of a perfect track record where each game was a contender for game of the year, Halo has it(at least until Halo Wars comes out). In terms of most good games though, Mario does (Super Mario Bro, Super Mario Bro 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Galaxy, Paper Mario, Dr. Mario). Even Super Smash Brothers, Yoshi, and the Wario games could technically be part of its series too.
it is a great series, but you have to put mario, zelda, and the metal gear series ahead of it, just becuse how long they have been around. halo is only so far 2001-2007, where as mario is 1985-2007. there are soo many series that could be mentioned, halo is just really popular cuse of its now factor. DOOM, GTA, Resident evil are all inovative series to be mentioned.
And if Halo is not, then what is? Think about it, what game series have you had more fun with, and you could just keep going back to? there really is none.Hickamie14

Dear lord, I can think of so many other game franchises that sucked more time out of my life than halo.
Halo 1 and 2 were epic, but they just lost it with halo 3. It might be just how terrible the online maps were compared to halo 2. Anyways, something definately went horribly wrong with halo 3.
If we're not counting halo 3, then its definately somewhere up with the greatest series of all time, but not the greatest.
According to popularity and sales, it's the greatest. But when you put that aside, Halo 3 isnt great to me. It's good, but not great. Although vehicle matches are my personal favorite in Halo 3, amongst friends, I couldnt stand to play online with randon people. There are far too many misbehaved players on Halo 3. Yeah sure, mute them, ignore, leave match, just to join another match with more people like them again. Halo 3 online with friends is absolutely fun, the campaign was solid but nothing great.
i havent seen a greater game series than halo, the best thing of all the halo series was when id be at an epic halo 1 party, over 3 hour match of CTF at sidewinder, there is no beating that, although i do think that it has gotten a little worse as the series has gone, halo 1 being easily the best of them all
There are other game series that are better, such as Star Wars, Mario, Panzer Dragon, and Call of Duty, but HALO is defentally leaving it's mark on the gaming industry for a variety of reasons. While not the best game series it is definatlly one of the greatest.
what is popular doesn't mean quality in any form. "the third man" is an amazing movie, cinematic experience, beautifully shot, lit, and acted, etc.. but i bet most people have never heard of it. everyone probably will think of transformers as such a great movie, or some other run of the mill hollywood churn out... popularity does not mean quality.
Halo 3 killed any momentum the other games set into motion.
Bungie pissed me off with the way they ended the story. They forced a happy ending. They made Guilty Spark act stupid, when in #2 he was the most enlightened character.
