I've been thinking of picking up a Panasonic HDTV. I've got a perfectly good standard def TV that's about 4 years old, but I'm considering making the upgrade. Is there really that big of a difference between standard def and HDTV?

I'm most concerned about the 360. How do the games look in HD? Is the difference worth paying a grand for?

BTW, here's the TV I'm looking at:

Go to your local sony store, usually they have a pretty sweet DVD playing that shows you the difference. It's 100% noticable. In games, movies, anything. It's definately worth investing in, because it will be around for a bit before the next piece comes out.

How does standard def TV look in HD? Also, I've got digital cable with HD channels. Do I need any additional equipment?

High Definition TV's are great no matter what you use it for. Especially watching movies on the Blu-Ray or HD DVD disks. You can tell the difference straight away (that's if you got a good HDTV).

Since your question is about how Xbox 360 will look and play on HDTV... If you have HDTV and set your TV resolution at 720p or 1080p you will notice the difference staright away! But not every game is meant to play with high resolution. So sometimes you'll need to change your settings to match the game's settings.

So to answer your question, yes it's worth it.

I upgraded from a Flat Screen 27" Toshiba to a 40" Sammsung LC HDTV, it's an expensive move, but worth every penny if your looking to enahnce your gaming experience.

I got this tv,

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8251358&type=product&id=1169512521206

and it blows me away! The Ambilight technology is the future. and I cant stand watching a tv without it. for those of you dont know what it is. Its got these lights built into the back that project whatever the ambient color is on screen. and makes it look ten time bigger and brighter.

For example, your playing halo 3 in the first level when you are in the jungle and it will make the room look a tint of green and you will feel immersed in the game.

Plus some games will blow you away at how much better they look in hd. like gears.... jaw droping!

First game I saw on HD was Gears and the whole time I was just appauling at how good the graphics looked. and I still do every time I play. once you use HD, and play again later without it, youll never want to play without again .

Huge difference. When I switched from my 20" 480p LCD to my 32" 720p Samsung there was a huge difference. The CoD4 beta(which was when I got my TV) made my head explode. It was that great.

When i would go to my buddies house and play 360 on their HDTV's and come home to have to play on my normal television,

It drove me to fork out the money and made 'Dead Rising' a mediocrely sweeter game.

That's funny, this is exactly how my upgrade was, 27 to 40" Samsung LCD, lol. Anyways, my favorite game at the time was BF2 and I was amazed to find that the health bar wasn't just one solid green bar but a bunch of tiny vertical bars. That and the fact that I could read the smaller text without having to be right in front of the TV were the big "wow" factors to me. It's beyond worth it.

it's absolutely worth it. you haven't experienced the "next gen" of gaming until you've played on HD.

That's pretty much what I'm doing now. I'm going from a 27" CRT to a 42" plasma. I just ordered the Panasonic this morning. Can't wait!

BTW, Sears is having a special. If you charge an HDTV to a Sears card, you get either 18 months no interest or $150 off. Not only that, but they're slashing prices for this sale. If anyone is interested, go check it out.

I can't imagine having a 360 connected to anything but a high-def display.
