I'm thinking about picking one up.  It'll probably be the elite when I do.  But, since I've waited this long to get one...wont I be at a disadvantage to those who had theirs since launch.  Like say I want to play GOW online.  I know that I'll get dominated because I'll just be learning how to play.  Does Live have newbie rooms where advanced players can't join?  I don't want to get it if I'm going to loose every multilayer game there is.  Whats the fun in that?

There are player matches and there are ranked matches. Play in player matches until you can actually aim properly. And yes, you will get owned a lot in Gears.

What's the difference of a 'player match' than other matches?

I would think that ppl that have more skill would go into these rooms and smoke everybody just for kicks.

Ya I plan on getting all three too at some point.  360 seems like the way to go at the moment for me.

Do you find online games hard to play because of your skill level?

i shared the same concern, and it is worth it. I get my ass handed to me in Gears, but when you get that kill, your team will even cheer for you. at least the guys ive played with. I normally, just get in, and say, guys, im new, just to let you know why i cant kill anyone. and the laugh and cheer you on.

Rainbow 6 Vegas is a GREAT online game for your system, awesome online, and its got a good learning curve. i started killing people without many issues after only a few hours.

as for what system, i would suggest the Elite. Thats the one i picked up. its a great system, looks awesome, and if you got the HDMI on your TV, it is the one you want. the 120gig HD for only another 60 bucks is well worth the coin.

It is definitely worth it.  At first, I sucked at GoW on Live.  But then I just played it more and got better.  You might suck at first, but you will get better.

It is definitely worth it bro. I sucked when I first got Gears and I was gettin smoked. But once you play some games, it slowly becomes easier and way more fun. For the most part, your team will cheer you on. Definitely worth picking up a 360.

tons of people get GOW each day, and you can usually find a noob server to learn how to get good, or if you have a friend with the game, he could show you some of the more important things.  there's no reason to miss out on the 360 or gears

You'll probably get owned at first.  As you play and get progressivly better and start getting your kills it gets so much more fun.  Going through the online learning curve really isn't that bad though.

I think it's good that you need some training to be good at a game, then when you get really good it feels so much better.

my 360 just broke after having it for almost 2 and a half years :D Its well worth it, I'm going to use my warrenty to get another one today :D Even if your 360 breaks, you have warrenty, people complain that it breaks alot and there is no reason to, unless your a cheap bastard because warrenty would make the PS3 cost like 50 or 100 dollars just ain't worth the warrenty :p I plan to get the Elite later on when the newer processor comes out :D For those who say, "Oh the 360 scratches discs." I'm going to go buy a PS3, insert a disc and start playing it, then chuck it out a two story building window, run down to go take out the disc, and say, "Apparently the PS3 scratches discs, wow what a piece of crap" I'll eventualy put that up on Youtube :p 360 won't scratch discs unlessed moved, but when you get those thin little rings around your discs that means the laser was sort of burning into it. It isn't severe and will not affect how the game plays :D If your 360 discs are scratched and don't work, microsoft will replace any game for 20 dollars and they mail you a brand new one.(The fee is because it's a broken game they can't sell it or anything, just goes in the trash) So in truth there isn't really anything bad about the 360, the online is really good, and the games are fun :D
The one bad thing: Kids on xbox live... its horrific, they are cheap, annoying, complaining, and ignorant bastards playing M rated games. Its the worst on Halo series and Saint Row, because Halo is such a popular title everyone has it, **** jerks, racists, retards, about everything included in that 90% of the population that doesn't know what a molecule is. It's bad for that reason, because you get some white boy talking **** and he doesn't know what hes saying, its not offensive, he just makes himself look like such a retard you which you could point it out to him. But their usualy too stupid to realize it and whether you point it out or not, they will continue saying crap :p Like some newbish kid who talks trash and thinks hes a gangster in real life, like saying your 5 and you work for Microsoft :p Anyways enjoy Xbox Live :D
It's not ranked.

and also, you won;t be put into any advanced players like some other people but you'll be put into a friendly match.

When you play gears just play through the campaign on hardcore and then insane difficulties, that's what I did when I first got the game, lots of easy achievement points (especially if you do co-op) and you'll learn how to play the game and stay alive online. It plays differently then other shooters, so you'll have to get used to it. Also get Rainbow Six Vegas, it plays kinda similar to gears but it is a little and easier to get used to if your new. I just got the game a week ago but I already usually lead every match I play for kills. It also has a cool ranking system for the online mode, that gives you cooler weapons and customization options for your character. And it doesn't take that long to level up (at least the first two times).

No one will care if your a noob . I often look at everyones gamer card , and I see alot of people with zero to 100 gamerscore . In GeoW no one cares if you a noob , they just don't want you to quit and leave .

I think you should get it not only for Gears, but on May 29th a game called Shadowrun comes out. It will be basically all multi-player and is compared to counterstrike, except you have ancient magical abilities and technology (like gliders and enhanced vision/reflexes). I definitely recommend buying the 360 over the other systems and all of you should check out Shadowrun, there are lots of gameplay vids on youtube and a demo is supposed to be released soon.

Also get some of the arcade games, some of them like jetpac are just amazing games, especially for the price. You can play them online too, but there's usually no one to play against unless you play catan. It's also great how you can play them really quick in 5-15 minute sessions if you want.
