Take a fan and point it at your 360, and give it some ventilation. Don't move the console with the discs inside with the power on. That should prevent any problems. I've been doing that for a year, had the thing for 2, with heavy usage.
And its been running fine.
not all 360s came defective. I have had mine since May 2006 and it never has scratched or gave me ring of death lights. I think the reason some people had a lot of problems is they ran the 360 in a room that was humid or too hot, and didn't have it fresh air to suck in and cool it. Running electronics in a 3rd world country with no air conditioning isn't going to be good for it.
Microsoft claimed they switched to 65nm chip, and this might make less heat so your good to buy now I would say. Get a instore warranty if you can (this way you can exchange it in the store you bought it at, if you get a lemon, instead of sending it back to m$), and get the elite console with 120gig hd, this will come in handy when the new update is released that allows you to install games on your hard drive.
