From what I've heard, the save system doesn't sound that bad. You have to save in a toilet - so what?

Isn't that just the same as having to find typewriters in the Resi series?

So can players of the game tell me their verdict on whether the game's save system really is broken or whether it's just people who've gotten too used to the save-anywhere feature than accompanies most games today, moaning that the saving is a little last gen?

Answers will be appreciated,

Thanks.

Its really not that bad. The only reason people said it was broken is because the games main missions are mostly time based so if you save in a bad spot and dont give yourself enought time to get somewhere you need to be you will be scewed.  But even if this happens you can start a new game with your same stats and the game really isnt that long anyway.  My solution to the save system problem was that i never saved during a mission. I saved right after i beat one and then I was always fine. So no its not that bad. If you have not played Dead Rising then you should most defenitly check it out.

It's not bad at all. You merely have to go to a point in order to save like a billion other games. Being able to save anywhere and anytime would take away the aspect that it is a SURVIAL HORROR game.

So in the end, save system is fine. If that was the only thing that may of stopped you from buying the game, just ignore what whiners have to say and buy the game.

It is unusal and frustrating at times but it isn't that bad. The fact you only get one save slot can be annoying if you accidentally save when you won't have enough time to get to the next mission, making you start over again. It is similar to Resi Evil, in that you have to find save points (instead of typewriters it's toilets/bedding) but you only have one slot to "choose" from.

So it's not as bad as people make out, but it is still pretty annoying.

Its the "Save Status and Quit" that messes everyone up. It saves your level, but you start from the beginning of the game again. Once people get that, its not bad at all. I like the save system, it helps you make sure you don't get leveled by some tough bosses.

The problem has the do with a time limit you have to get to your objectives. And if you dont make the time limit the game doesn't end, only the story ends. So if you save when theres no way you can get there in time then youre screwed and just have to stay in the mall till the heli comes to pick you up. Its not a big problem though

It's cool I reckon although the Timing has never been a problem for me in Dead Rising as I have always managed what I was going to do in it. Although I must say that there aren't a lot of save game places in the mall.

i dont think it is bad, just deely frustrating at some points. eventually you find out when is and isnt the best time to save the game - the one save and no save anywhere does add to the survival horror feel, but can get quite annoying when you START playing the game (ie when you've only had it for a couple of days).

Im not overly fond of it, to me the only thing that makes the game  very frustrating.  Its a time sink to make the game "seem" longer.

I think it's that bad.  I would have loved that game if it hadn't been artificially made difficult by it's save system.  Maybe I just didn't feel the payoff was worth all the patience.  As it is, no other 360 game has let me down more so far.

Theres nothing bad. What they mean is like you have time to do a mission. Like lets say the mission is at 12:00 and you start the mission at 1:00 you have to start the game over unless you want to restart from where you save

No it isn't that bad... people are just so used to a save-anywhere setup or a checkpoint setup and having their victories handed to them. There are save points all over the mall and you are given a map. What's the problem?

The only REAL problem with the save system is that you can only have one save going at a time unless you have a memory card or something. And since the save game holds all your character data, there's no way to have more than one character again.

But yeah, people are just angry because the game isn't easy like most other games these days are. Saving in a toilet didn't stop me from beating the game or getting 1000/1000 achievements. So it can't be that bad.

Here is my problem, lets say I am doing a mission that takes 20 minutes min.  I get 15minutes into the mission and something happens IRL and I have to put it down, turn off the console come back later. Well there is no way to save the game quickly you have to make it to a toilet.  So you have to play that 15 minutes again when you come back.

The othe point is well taken, especially with people that are RPG Gamers, they like to save at a point and see what happens if they do X, then come back and try Y.  The problem with the save system in this game is if it take 10 minutes to get to a point in the game and you want to try 2 different approaches you have to play the lead in portion both times.

IMO save points are a console thing, PC Gamers tend to dislike save points in games.

That's one of the main things, the having to spend extra minutes to find a save point rather than just saving it where you are. It wouldn't make the actual fights or anything any less interesting, and frankly the dead rising system is annoyingly awkward. The "save at the wrong point and have to do the whole story over again" thing is mind numbingly stupid. Saying that this save system makes the game more "Challenging" is like saying you enjoy the "challenge" of playing with 3 of the buttons missing from your pad. How hard would it have been to simply put a more acceptable save system in place. Sometimes, you dont want to, or just can't, spend the extra 5-10 minutes battling to a save point.

When I first played it I thought it was quite annoying as it kept making me do a new game even though I had saved it, but it maintained the stats, you get used to it.

Well said, the game does not have a good save system but it is what it is. If you have bought this game yet you also might want to wait for the rumored "Special Edition PH" version which will have online coop.

No the save system isn't bad at all to people that notice two consistant themes in the game... Time Management and Decision Making.

It's the same thing when you accept a quest or decide to help people... you have to decide if they are really worth it and you have the time.

people that don't accept the save system are just whiners... it's pretty much the same decision to be made when you run off and go help some loser trapped in a store.

I just found it crappy that if you saved at a wrong location, youre screwed, and pretty much have to start the whole game over again. And if you die, youre also screwed, that just ruined it for me.

dude people that say that the save system(toilets, and the bed) is bad because they suck. all u have to do is always have beer, milk, or orange juice on u and its all good. and zombies...phhh, zombies??? dude jump across the mall and u level up in this game so u'll get better at the game no matter what...unless u don't know how to play.

PS. sorry people but u can't bash dead rsing. this game is one of my favorite games on the 360

I used my HDD and Memory Unit for saving. I would save on my HDD first, then if I wasn't to sure about saving I would save on the MU first. And if I did save with bad timing, I just reload the save from the HDD. Problem solved.

You have to go to work... You just beat 5 missions in Dead Rising... And your late for work because you have to push through hundreds of zombies to find a bathroom to save... Yes, the save system is that bad.

It is not bad for most of the time. But when it mess you up, it really f*** you up really bad.

magicalclick

lol, I WILL agree with this. You have to be very careful when you save because I HAVE screwed myself pretty badly there. I had to restart my game a couple of times while getting Saint and Transmissionary just because I did something stupid right before I saved. But most of the time it's fine... there are enough save points, just be careful WHEN you use them.

So the game was flawed... too short, and they had to make it artificially harder.  That's why I found it frustrating.  I'd rather it take 8 hours to beat than require me to play the same bits over and over and over again.

I guess when you think about it, it isn't bad, that is, when you've played it a lot.  In the beginning you die so much, which is probably why people don't like it, but aroung lvl 25-30 you only die if you act stupid (like me).
