I am a current Xbox One owner after being a lifelong Playstation fanboy. I have played the Xbox 360 at some of my coworkers houses and it converted me into a fan of the Xbox brand. I never owned a Xbox or Xbox 360 so I was wondering if owning a Xbox 360 is worth it still. If so what are some games I should pick up and will I be able to use my Xbox One Gamertag?

If you can get one for a decent price, I think it's still worth it. It has a tonne of awesome games on it and they are going real cheap atm. And yes, you can use the same Gamertag as your Xbone.

Of course it´s worth it and nowdays it´s even better, long gone are the days of 60-120 GB HDDs, now you can get up to 500 GB HDDs, prices of new consoles have been reduced greatly ( you can get a new one for around 200 US Dollars ) , prices on games have also been reduced, it has an extensive library and the on-line community is still very large.

For example, yesterday I was playing Halo 4, at one moment 2,000 people were playing Team Death Match, 3,000 were playing TDM Big Teams, 1,200 were playing Swat, 1,500 playing TDM Heavies and in the other MP arenas at the smallest had 450 players playing. You will milk a lot of fun from a X360 for a very long time.

Unlike the new consoles there's games to play on it.

Kinda strange to me though that X1 is the MS console that made you finally decide to go green. It's the worst machine they've ever built relative to the times they were released. In terms of power it's a borderline-Nintendo console.

TC: If there are games you would play on the 360, it's worth it. I wouldn't go buy one first. Look at the library. Who knows, maybe you already played all the multiplats and the exclusives aren't your cup of tea. Check the library out.

I always wonder about new accounts especially after some of them make these kinds of proclamations.

EDIT: The TC's proclamations.

Lol, nearly 2 years is new?

And yeah, it's a borderline-Nintendo console. 1.3 tflops GPU and weak mobile CPU cores in late 2013 is half of what a proper console for the time would have been.

lol Wha? The TC who you were talking about created his account almost two months ago (November 9, 2014) and only has 50 posts.

That's a new account by my reckoning.

It's all good.

I quoted you because you brought up the point "Kinda strange to me though that X1 is the MS console that made you finally decide to go green. It's the worst machine they've ever built relative to the times they were released."

I was just commenting on your side point plus answering the TC that he should look at the library of the 360 before to make a decision.

@raugutcon:

I am glad to see that there still is life on some of the games. I want to play the Halo series but I am afraid to get the MCC so I was thinking about getting all of the games for the 360 so that when Halo 5 comes out I will be up to speed on the series. I will also too try to borrow them from my friends.

I did make my account here almost 2 months ago, I don't post as much as I do at IGN but I find that I like this site better. If the boards got more activity here I would probably switch sites. I will not mention IGN again since I don't want to start anything. Why does my join date and post count matter btw?

New accounts don't necessarily matter. I only said it makes me wonder about the new accounts, not that they matter. I won't list the reasons but I've been around.

It's other things that are said combined with a new account that cause one to wonder though, not just a new account existing. Anyways, good luck on your 360 game hunt.

Of course it's still worth owning there's a ton of exclusive third party goodness on the 360 just waiting for someone like you who's completely new to Xbox. The 360 may not have as much first party support as the PS3 but it more than makes up for it with a huge selection of third party exclusives due to a whole year head start.

I started as a PS fan myself with the PS1 and the PS2 but when the 360 came out I became addicted to XBL and seen that MS were actually trying to improve console gaming through innovation rather than just stagnating. I've been a fan and a staunch defender of Xbox ever since.

@mortispenguin: I think it is. You can find a 360 for a good price and the games are pretty cheap, too. I just gave mine to my brother (who's not even that much of a gamer) and he's loving it; he picked up several of the best 360 games for just a few bucks apiece and is having a blast.

Yes since Xbox one is not backwards compatible with Xbox 360 games. There is no plans to make Xbox one play Xbox 360 or Xbox games.

So you can pick up a Xbox 360 E console for $199.99 with 2 pack in games and 250GB HDD and catch up on any Xbox 360 games you have missed in addition to original Xbox games since Xbox 360 consoles feature limited backwards compatibilies with Xbox games.

So enjoy Xbox one and Xbox 360

Indeed, I still fire up mine from time to time. I still have a backlog that I try to attend to whenever possible, though in 2014 if I were to talk in percentages, I would say 99% of my gaming time was on Xbox One. However, on Christmas day recently I could not log on to the Xbox One (due to temporary Live issues) but I was able to log on to the 360 and play some Lords of Shadow 2 until XOne Live access came back.

Another thing the 360 is great for is for some of those 2D gems, partly because they are not very demanding hardware-wise. Games like Symphony of the Night, Flashback, CastleCrashers, TMNT 1986, Smash TV.....ohh yeah...no way I'm getting rid of those beauties....yeah I know you can get them on other systems, but in my case now those games are only on my 360.

All the Halo games (3, ODST, Reach, 4), Gears of War 1-3 (plus Judgment), and Forza Motorsport 3 & 4 were my favorite exclusives. And I know it's another Halo title, but Halo Wars was really underrated; I don't think there's a console game out there that has come as close to getting the RTS experience right as it.

That's funny. This guy felt the same...We are like gaming bros!

Shout-out to Fable series too as that was okay, but that went downhill imo.

TC, if you want a list of exclusive 360 games to buy (some are on PC, but console wise exclusive), here's my 360 list. Everyone is different:

  1. Halo 3
  2. Halo ODST
  3. Halo REACH
  4. Halo 4
  5. Halo Wars
  6. Halo Anniversary HD
  7. Halo Waypoint (Cool exclusive app, but consider this extra as I didn't count it)
  8. GeoW 1 (Gears of War 1)
  9. GeoW 2
  10. GeoW 3
  11. GeoW Judgement
  12. Fable 2
  13. Fable 3
  14. Fable The Journey
  15. Fable Heroes
  16. Fable Pub Games
  17. Fable Anniversary
  18. Forza 2
  19. Forza 3
  20. Forza 4
  21. Forza Horizon
  22. Forza Horizon 2
  23. Forza Horizon 3 (coming soon)

----

The only thing I might point out is if they ever make an Xbone Fable HD collection or Xbone GeoW HD collection, you can scratch these 360 games off the list assuming they are glitch free. Halo MCC is glitchy on SinglePlayer and MultiPlayer (343 is working on it), so I would still recommend the 360 versions over my Xbone version though as of right now.

@mortispenguin Too many great games on the 360 to list, big fan of the exclusive franchises mentioned above(Halo, Gears, Forza), they each really pushed their respective envelopes at the time. Gears pioneered online co-op on consoles, Forza made great strides and is pretty much the king of racers right now, but those are just the core franchises ....the 360 had some great non-core exclusives as well such as Shadow Complex, Alan Wake, State of Decay, Mass Effect(was exclusive for a long time on 360....pretty much one of my favorite RPGs ever), Lost Odessy, and I know I am missing quite a few here. I own most of the 2D games(some I listed above), being able to play classics like Smash TV and Gauntlet online, at the time, was just incredible.

The 360 had great exclusives and obviously a huge library of multiplatform games I played a lot such as the Dead Space series. So many great memories with the 360.
