Is there any game that has a campaign/story mode longer than 10 or 12 hours?

i loved last gen console games. you would play for more than 10 hours and still enjoy playing.

games like god of war 1 and 2 , as well as resident evil 4 really got me my moneys worth.

but ever since i jumped onto the next gen/current gen consoles in 2007, all that i see and have are games that are soo short, you wonder how they are 60$ or even 40pounds.

the only game that really took me time to finish was tenchu z, it was like 50 levels/missions. but sadly it had like 6/7 maps., so you had to replay the same maps til you got to the end. lol

i don't like first person shooter games. i don't even have any.

i heard fallout 3 is a pretty long game. but that isn't my cup of tea. resident evil 5 was a Short as a hot dog.

i got fable 2, beat the story in about 12 hours. got lost planet 1 and saints row 1 on Monday, beat both of them on Wednesday night.

so does anyone have any recommendations for a long game. preferably longer than 10/12 hours in campaign mode.?

i am pretty bored and i need games that will keep me glued and occupied. i am fed up of DLC. a game is short, then DLC is released and even that itself doesnt last you a long time.

what is with short games being released on the xbox 360?

You should buy The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It's an amazing game that will last you a really long time and is well worth your money. Especially if you get the Game of the Year Edition which comes with the Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine expansion packs. You'll be really happy with Oblivion, I promise.

If you don't like Fallout but do like Fable then try Oblivion. If you're into turn-based RPGs try Lost Odyssey. If you like racing try Midnight Club LA. If you haven't got it then GTA IV is a good choice. And yeah I agree about the shortness.

Yeah there is a trend towards shorter games. With MP being such a big feature of gaming nowadayssome developers think they can get away with shortchanging you on the SP, which they do regularly. I like the Half-Life series, but with the episodes they've just taken this thing to another level. I think the latest was about four hours long, which is all the more shocking given how long they've made us wait for episode three.

At least Rockstar and Bethesda have picked up the slack with bang for buck in SP.

What's not to like about Fallout 3? GTA IV took me about 25 hours.. and I highly doubt you finished Fable II in 12 hours..

Driving games such as Forza 2 are good if you're looking purely for length.. I've put something like 50 hours into that and I'm still nowhere near completion.

i have midnight club LA. matter of fact that is one game were alot can be done and you still cant get enough of it. its fun and long.

grand theft auto 4 was a let down for me. the story was soo boring, and there was sooo little you could do. there wasnt customization, etc. it was soo dull that once i finished the story, i had to sell it. why would i hunt pigeons? who came up with that boring idea. LAD isnt for me, i am not into bikes and that theme just drove me away from gta. saints row 2 with better graphics would beat gta 4. its more fun etc. i got saints row 2 but that too is short.

fable 2 was good as well, lots of stuff to do, but story was short and after that, the DLC coming out is just ridiculous and dull.

elder scrolls IV oblivion, if i am not mistaken, that game has both 1st person camera angle and 3rd person camera view right? i have played some of it at a friends place, but i never really got into it.

dead space? hahaha, i got that too, just because everyone said it was nice and its review was high.other than that i would never have got it. well, i didnt like it, it wasnt scary, some levels/missions were recycled. i.e you had to come back to the same part of the ship again. etc

generally, i didnt see why the game was soo over hyped and had such high ratings.

i really dont understand why developers are releasing short games. a ps2 game used to cost like 20$. it was long and fun. but a ps3 or xbox 360 game costing 69 or 59 dollars or even 40 pounds yet it is short and not even worth it really takes the fun out of gaming.

you would expect games like resident evil 5, devil may cry 4 etc to be really long, but guess what? , they are short.

If you're complaining about replay value, you should try some games with multiplayer. It looks to me like you're just too picky.

I just finished Mass Effect and it took me around 15 hrs but thats not including all the sidequest. I figure it will take some 20hrs or a little more to finish it including all side quests. I've also heard Eternal Sonata is kind of long (haven't finished it yet).

I disagree with the GTA 4 and Elder scrolls 4 oblivion part, those are the best games this Gen and their so long. Anyways, try Mass Effect, but if you don't like it, then you have no good Long games then.

Definetely Oblivion

With the GOTY edition, you can get up to 200 hours on your first playthrough and then it's pretty addicting so I would guess you can do several playthroughs

My recomendations would be Mass Effect, Oblivion, or any JRPG's such as ToV or Lost Odyssey. Remember though, complete every side quest to make a game even longer. And on a side note, I didn't like Fallout 3, but really enjoy Oblivion. Maybe try the Orange BOX too.

Most JRPGs. If you do side quests and stuff on any RPG it will take longer. ME might be like 20 if you do everything. GTA4 is pretty long if you liked Saints Row. It sounds like your just not a big fan of the genres of games that generally are longer

Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts should take you quite a bit of time obtaining every jiggly and note. Dead Space has a story mode that takes about 15 hours.

Pretty much any JRPG is going to have a campaign/story mode longer than 10-12 hours. Western RPGs (like Fallout 3/Oblivion/Fable) are a different story. Now I know that yes, you can log in well over 100 hours of gameplay in Oblivion and still not have completed everything, but the main story is six hours tops (you could probably beat it in 4-5 if you really wanted). Everything else is sidequest. Which, wouldn't be bad if the combat had anything even resembling depth. Honestly, the complete lack of effort that went into making the combat fun made me weep, and I ask God every day how I managed to play Oblivion for as long as I did (116 hours....over a two year period). What makes the lack of fun combat (oooo, let's press the same button over and over again and watch the person swing an arm in the same two-three motions over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Oh, wait, let's use the shield and start all over again. Oh, hey, let's use some poorly implemented magic! Whooo!) even worse is that the quest are near identical to each other. There's little to no variety. Whoever wrote the script, if such a banal thing can be called such, needs to be shot. I could go on, but I digress. If you want something that's going to be fun and last a while, try Tales of Vesperia. I've logged in over 60 hours of gameplay, without having done most of the sidequest. The plot is intriguging, the characters suck you in, the combat is fun and involving, game is tough but not cheap, and graphics are beautiful (especially the animated sequences). Not to mention the opening song is very catchy. You already struck down GTA4, and although not as fun as GTA III or Vice City, should be able to net at least 20 hours of gameplay. I did a speed run to get the achievement in beating it under 30 hours, and ONLY did the story missions and clocked in at 20 some odd hours. Fallout 3's story can be finished up quickly as well, but I didn't find it that fun and once you reach level 20, there's no point in fighting unless you actually enjoy the combat. No other games that I've played on the 360 have any significantly long campaign/story modes. But remember, Tales of Vesperia, and maybe Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Lost Odyssey, Infinite Undiscovery, Eternal Sonata.

that is exactly why i refuse to buy oblivion. its so repetitive,

i will check out tales of versperia and he others you mentioned.

i really want a game where the story and NOT the side missions is more than 12 hours.

most of the games are all about side missions. but god of war never had side missions and it was long. the same thing applied to resident evil 4.

a game can be 20-50 hours long, but that is with side quests etc.

i was just wondering if there is a game out there that is really long. is there a reason why developers are making games that are short?

does some one know why?

Mass Effect, The Orange Box, Bioshock. You could technically finish Bioshock fairly quickly if you just rushed through it and didn't really get yourself into exploring the backstory. Mass Effect took me over 60 hours to complete the story and side quests, but had I done just the main mission quests, it probably is a 12 hour game or so.

TC I think that you need to start taking your time when your'e playing games. You say you bead Fable 2 in 12 hours? I think you should do the side quests, run around and cause havok, get the legendary weapons, max your character out. You know, have some fun with it. These extra features are in games for a reason.

The only reason games seem so short today is because alot of the biggest games are shooters. Shooter normally don't have long campaigns unless it focuses solely on the campaign. Theres still a good number of games with 10+ hour single players. Bioshock, Mass Effect, Lost Odyssey, The Orange Box, Oblivion, Fallout 3, Eternal Sonata, Star Ocean: The Last Hope, Tales of Vesperia, Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto IV, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Gears of War 2(it's a bit iffy, you can beat it in less than ten hours, but you likely wont beat it in less than ten hours on your first run unless you just rush through it and skip the cut scenes as well).

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion without a doubt. The actual story is fantastic and lasts more than 20+ hours plus there are hundreds more hours of gameplay in the side quests :D

Saints Row 2 is also good

Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey, Oblivion, Mass Effect, GTA4, Star Ocean 4 all have about 30 hours minimum. Bioshock can be up to 12-15 hours.
You should really give Fallout 3 a chance. It wasn't my cup of tea, but I'm playing it now and it is my favourite game.
