Umm.. Mine doesn't do that at all and I've had it for about a year. I would get that checked out man.

Speaking of...my elite's disc drive comes out and in kind of slow..and it doesn't always read the disc on the first time, I have to open it and close it sometimes. It only happened since the new NXE install-option thing.

1st mistake and it was a major one. If you purchased it from a store, get a full refund before its too late. The 360 is a great gaming console but it is a terrible terrible electronic device. I'd only buy one new. Anything else is like competing on Fear Factor except there's no $50,000 for taking the risk.

Never EVER buy pre-owned electronics.

But to answer your question, no, that is not normal.

Um...I bought a core system around 2 years ago and nothing has happened (knock on wood). It does make a weird noise everyonce and awhile, but its just the disc tray vibrating. I just touch it and it stops. I think the reason why it has lasted this long is from me leaving a disc in it all the time. It most likely covers the laser, slightly protecting it from harful bits of dust. My friend religiously takes out his discs and he is on his second xbox.

Hmmm, I do the same thing and mine has lasted for a while, has anyone else noticed this?

I'm on my 5th xbox and I leave my games in the system too. I have gotten the RROD each time it died but the cd-rom has worked fine.

My 360 used to do that whenever I put a new game in there; it sounded like my Xbox was eating the disc. However, after a week or so, it eventually stopped and haven't heard a peep from it

For the record...if you have disc read errors, the simple "open system (and disc drive) and clean" worked for me SO FAR. After playing a fun game of 'Will it read the disc THIS time?' for about 15 minutes or so, I opened it up (easy guides online, I suggest making a plastic key from a blank CD case topper, google it.) and cleaned it out with duster.

Read the disc 3/3 times so far, trying not to jynx myself.

Early Elite's made more noise than other Xbox's, is yours an Elite? I've noticed my pro and my brother's Elite are likely to make some strange noises if the disc has decent scratches on it. Rented or especially used games can get a little loud.

Mine gets loud, but that's it. My games that are installed on my hard drive are much quieter. I don't think you should be hearing clanking noises though.
