I just purchased another Xbox 360 Elite console. It's a falcon model with a BenQ DVD drive. It makes these exact same noises found in this video, http://video.aol.com/video-detail/xbox-360-elite-grinding-benq-drive/912138304

Is this perfectly normal? Anyone else have a 360 that makes these exact same noises? Btw, I have NO disc on the console when I start it up.

Btw, the noise isn't as loud as it is in the video but I can hear it sitting 5 feet away.

I wouldn't think twice with anything that made a noise like that.

Tell me about it. Sucks because I have GTA IV and I don't want to do missions since I'll have to return my console anyways.

Not normal. It sounds like the lense is either stuck or scratching the disc.

It does it when there's no disc in the drive. It's not THAT loud but I can hear it when I'm sitting 5 feet away.

I searched for Benq drives on youtube and all make the same noise. I have one and mine does extacly the same. However from the dodgy sound quailty on some of the vids it sounds like a scratching sound. I can assure you that is not the case, its just the drive spining up.

Should I keep the console or exchange it? I have 30 days.

Alright. It'd be nice to have the console startup without making dumb noises.

just recently, after i dropped my 360, I started hearing really loud fan noises, but not like yours. Does it turn on and off, or is it constant? Mine works fine, but it sometimes doesn't read somewhat scratched up discs.

Its Normal. Its the noise what the falcon driver makes when its checking for a CD/DVD disc. Don't worry about it cause its fine.

I can't believe these people who say it isn't OMG.

Yep I guess its normal, I have a Benq drive and it does the same noise although your right it isnt as loud as in the video. It only does it when you close the dvd drive or turn on your console, and it doesnt sound scratchy it sounds clunky as somebody else said.
