Isnt Halo Wars the game with the most mixed reviews ever?

Some guys say its great, others say its good, and others say its mediocre. I bought it at midnight launch anyways and think its very good although not great but for me its great because I suck at intricate RPGs and this one seems right up my alley. What do you think about it? and please dont base your opinions upon the demo, it doesnt do the game any justice.

I played it, and I personally hated it. I suppose I am use to RTS games on the computer with more then 30 units. The only thing I liked was the cinematic.

Honestly, don't trust the reviews for the game...alot of review sites compare it to more; detailed and intricate RTS', like Sins of a Solar Empire, DOW, etc etc and then give it a bad rating because its "not complex, not enough options/units/stances/blah/blah". Which is totally opposite of what Halo Wars is, which is a streamlined, functional console RTS.

Whether or not you like this game, is totally a matter of taste; if your an RTS veteran, then its probably not the game for you. If your new to the genre, or just love the halo universe, its right up your alley.

IMO, it's a fantastic game. Although not the most visually impressive, nor does it do anything innovational (except make a RTS work on a console), it makes the game feel like your playing halo, which is an impressive feat unto itself.

If you remember when you "stuck" that ghost in halo one, or lazered that warthog is Halo 3; you will encounter similar experiences in this game. and it feels damn good.

Now unfortunately this comment would have been longer, except i'm off to school! :)

Halo wars was short, oversimplified and a little boring. Get over it. It doesn't suck, but it is not an amazing game either. If you don't like it, cry me a river.

I will support this guy here. He basically has the idea down. This game will never appeal to guys like me who have played harder and more 'intricate' RTS.

I think this game got the press and sales because of the Halo name, which fine. But call this same game "Generic" Wars and it's a dud.

I like it, I'm actually hugely suprised how much I like it. The reason why I think its better than most other console RTS's out their is that its actually made to be played with a standard controller, its easy to get into and manage the game. Anther thing I like about it is the story is actually interesting, believable, and interacat, unlike every game in the command and conquer series.

We should not worry about reviews so much...cause its still selling pretty damn good...alot of people like it and so on

so not everyone can like it,so what?

If u like it,then thats all that matters...

ok im first to admit i was wrong there and i exaggerated. I guess my point is that the game imo is not much better than red alert 3 and that without the halo name there would be no hype surrounding this game and it would end up going under the radar. My five comment was a bit harsh.

Im not into RTS games. I hate having to manage a massive enventory. Im sure Halo wars was built so its controller freindly and can appeal to more gamers. Poeple want to bash it because its not a hard core computer RTS game that requires a keyboard to use. Halo 3 isnt compared to computer first person shooters in reviews, why should Halo wars?

Nice. I played some PSP RTS type games, and how come their not compared with hardcore PC RTS'? I think there is a place for the "dumbed down" console RTS. It's faster easier to manage and more exciting to the audience it's geared for. Case in point: Saw, the movie, imo, is a good creative horror flick. Compared to No country for old men it pales. But it's good for the market it was shooting for.

It's only really received one mediocre review (gamespot), other than that, it was pretty much universally praised.

I'd say Assassin's Creed got the most mixed reviews ever.

It wouldn't go under the radar if it was developed by Ensemble. I haven't tried the game, but I'm really looking forward to playing it. I think it LOOKS great and I loved the demo.

I love it because its not a "nerdy" RTS. I can simply sit back and not have to worry about thinking of the million features and button presses to perform while the battles last for over 30 minutes.

I can simply sit back, relax, and quickly own some squads in the Halo universe, which is pure win btw.

I love the 3 vs. 3 deathmatch gamemode.

It is a very well made RTS for fans of Halo. As for a standalone RTS game, its nothing special. It felt a lot like Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium. I'm really looking forward to Stormrise, I think that game will change the console RTS.

Lets face facts. It wasn't what it could have been. Seriously. With Ensemble being closed we will never get the game that might have been. That's what it really boils down too. Even playing the damn demo I thought 'This game wont be what it has the potential to be'. RTS games are supposed to be intricate and complicated. Hard to get into yes, but one hell of a challenge makes it worth it. If anything, this was a failed chance to make an RTS title that many Bungie fans would buy through name recognition and end up teaching a few people things like strategy and patience in gaming.

See, sitting back and such means you are neither playing nor thinking about your next play. A real RTS should punish laziness like that. Also, you are stupid for thinking any RTS has 'millions of button presses'. That exaggeration was so far from true it made you seem like an idiot. This game could have been a little more complicated without needing too much more from a player. Like say combat bonuses on your squads. A squad that lives long and kills many foes will be slightly stronger and long lasting in fights to come. Sort of a 'veterancy'(sp?) system to reward players who fight smart with their troops. Complicated doesn't mean that you have to do more so much as play smarter.

Look at the hype. Look at the reviews. I think I knew this was coming.

Besides, any game that doesn't let you have up to 120 units (heroes/vehicles/infantry) sucks...

I dislike unit limits period. Ridiculously sized battles are fun. I hacked my copy of C&C:Zero Hour so that me and my brother could play together through linkup without limits of any kind. Hacked skirmishes were fun. I think our best one was were I set it so that the home bases had 5x health, but if it was destoyed all your building/units died too.

Hey dude? Can you do all of us a favor and don't bash this guy? I mean, maybe he doesn't like having to manage differant resources (wood, iron, etc (besides, there's a GALACTIC WAR, so you shouldn't have to worry about numerous resorces)), or maybe he doesn't like having to manage 120+ units all at once, ever thought of that? However, I do agree with a "veteran" system (sounds awesome). But please, don't be harsh on people like taht.

Funny you say that. I modded Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars so I can have unlimited units. But it also comes with super fast purchases and invincible units and structures... :(

I was worse then I meant to be, but as I stated, his little exaggeration was severly stupid. He should be better then that, or at least, I would hope. When I played the game all I was thinking was 'These guys can die no problem. The next guys too'...Then I realized I could just let them all go to hell, because so long as I got the resource, I can keep making fighters endlessly who all have the same abilities and power level. I was getting no incentive to worry greatly for my soldiers well being, and I didn't feel worried about resources either. Skirmish after skirmish I was ending with roughly 100k resources reached throughout the game. (I am a slow player in RTS). Complicated is good for RTS, it keep it healthy and allows for more diverse playing. Halo Wars will be doomed soon., it will either get boring for those who master the simple system, or everyone will play the same since some random guy finds the inveitable 'best general'...There isn't enough to allow for everyone to grow different and play different. It feels like half what should have been there.

Meh, I leave gamebreakers out of my gameplay. I mod in new feature that require new strategy. I did a match once that gave me nothing but a group of ten american soldiers, one respawning cammando hero who would respawn exactly five minutes after death. I took on a hard AI. I could only win by destroying there main building. I won an hour later.

i played the demo and enjoyed it. I'll rent it but no way am i buying it. I need more than 30 units to wage war. 30 isnt a war or even an exercise. More of a gangland skirmish.

I wouldn't say it's that mixed. It mostly get scores in the 8 range. Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts' scores were much more mixed.

I do see your point because I think people don't like the strategy RPGs that Halo Wars is one of. I personally don't mind stratergy games as I like end war but I feel Halo Wars is not hands-on enough

I enjoyed the demo, and will be renting it. I personally love more complex RTS games, but sometimes I just want to build an army and roll over everything C&C style. Just because I like Halo Wars does not mean I don't like more intricate games like Stronghold or Age of Empires.
