it sounds like Bordlands is more fuzz than pop...

Well its only one more day and the 8 or so reviews out now is suggesting this game to be quit average. I really thought this game would have been beyond a better than average type of game. I haven't played it yet but i'm nervous to drop the full 60 bucks right now. Anyone else surprised or slightly disappointed that this game doesn't come across in the early reviews as something that could be epic? To me it seems like it will likely become a filler game for the beast that coming Nov 10. I'm hoping it will become more than that seeing how i've been following it for a long time.

for example. IGN reveiw said

"but more hardcore gamerslooking for more options for bolstering stats might feel something's missing'

Things like this is getting me worried... cause i'm a hardcore gamer..

Another thing that has me shaking in myh boots is that IGN said

"around 20 or so hours of content for a single playthrough"

I thought the first play through would have been 60 to 70 hours. So again the epic scale is being dimished.

I guess i was looking for something on the console that would feel something like WoW but that is definitly not coming from this lol.

What do you think "epic" will mean? 10/10? thats impossiable. From everythign i heard the only thing bad about this game is....picking up amo. The only way this game could be bad, is if Gearbox's actually TRIES to make it sh*t.

Well from the reviews I've gotten its a nice hybrid between RPGs and shooters. These are my two favorite genres of games, so I'm hoping it is good!

I believe it's been getting mostly mid to high 8's. Since when was that "average"? Generally, game reviews consider 7 average. 8 is good, 8.5 to 9.0 is very good, 9.0 - 9.5 is exceptionally good, and above that is stellar/ nearly flawless. Borderlands sounds great. IGN's 8.8 review told me exactly what I expected to hear: weak story, but lots of crazy gunplay lined with Diablo style loot-RPG elements and 4-player co-op. Except I predicted an 8.9. I'll be getting it for sure.bluem00se

I read this game can be one of the most exciting games you play, or it can be the most boring and frustrating thing ever created, depedning if you're playing with friends or not.

something is really telling me in my gut not to buy this game tomorrow, i think i will be highly disappointed, lol. i mean dam to get a character to lvl 50 in only 35 hours is so freaking sad, i'm sorry and only 18 hours for the main and all known side quest makes me want to puke. That's like saying "I only play AAA titles" and listing Vampire Rain as your favorite game ever.

The metacritic average for Borderlands is 87, those aren't "average numbers." Once again people who were flaky on this game or thought it would disappoint are trying to come up with creative ways to say an 87 on metacrtic is average, well it's not, it means the game is great with a few flaws. It's a great score for a new and different IP going up against established sequels. If you thought this game was going to get a 7 review score average and be a failure you were wrong.

Reviewers tend to rush through games rather than taking their time, they have a review to write and a deadline, they don't have time to take their time. Branon505 who has been streaming live has put in 50 hours and he has yet to beat the game.

Great job OP, you've picked through a few overwhelmingly positive reviews and found a few things to nit-pick and then declared the game to be average. If you don't want it then don't buy it.

C: I'm not sure what school you went to but, a 70 is average and an 87 is far above average. I personally, can't wait to get it and I could care less what the reviews say.

When was this game ever supposed to be WoW on the consoles? The OP obviously expected the game to be something it was never supposed to be and never claimed to be. It is a shooter with RPG elements.

So if an 87% metacritic score is the new "average" score, then what would you consider "above average"? Are we suddenly saying that any game that doesn't get 95% is a bad game?UT_Wrestler

sadly there are people that do only buy games that are rated AAA everywhere. i know very well that money can be an issue here,but i personally buy games that i know im going to enjoy reguardless of what a reviewer says. for $60 this game has more than enough content for me to be happy untill Q1 when more games come out like bioshock 2 and mass effect 2.

C: So, getting 1 character out of 4 to level 50 in 35 hours is sad? Four times 35 is how many hours? Did I mention there was deathmatch as well? Personally, I can't wait to get this game it sounds outstanding.

First of all if you type a message with over say...five lines of text use the enter button to break it up, otherwise it becomes a wall of text.

Second, if you don't have any money then you should not be buying any games. This is a big problem with the "global" economy right now. Credit is a means to allow you to easily acces your money not live on or overextend yourself. So if you truly have no money (or very limited funds) do not buy this game with it.

Thirdly, IGN says the game is GREAT...not good...not average, it is great according to their score. AAA's are not the only "good" games out their. Some of my favorite games from this generation have been AA titles: Dead Rising, Sacred 2, two worlds and Dead Space (currently Borderland's is outscoring or nearly tied with all of these games on Metacritic). If you only play mainstream hyped games then you will miss out on a lot of "good" ones.

Oh yeah. If MW2 doesn't score a 9.5 or above I just know there will be flaming going on everywhere. Same will go for Dragon Age and maybe even Mass Effect.

why does gamespot love being the slowest reviewing game critics out there... for places like this that make such emmense profit and are actually given the games well in advance of it's release. There's not really any excuse for why the review shouldn't be out the second the game is released. LAzy
