It's COD:WaW. Not COD 5. Get it straight.

Topic.

I can't remember 100% where I read this. I'm fairly sure I remember fourzerotwo making a small comment about it. But I'm pretty sure Infinity Ward has always said they intend on doing COD 5. Saying, there was a reason they called it "World at War".

Let's not forget, either, that not every COD game in the series has been a numbered title. COD 5 doesn't exist yet.

And for those who want to argue World at War is the 5th in the series. Well, it's not. COD 4 also wasn't 4th in the series, obviously.

Probably so people don't think it's an 'upgrade' of COD4, since it's not

Trust me, 9 times out of 10, I'd be saying the exact same thing as you. But this one kinda bother me. I don't know why. I guess it's because I think COD 5 is still going to be made.

I think the main reason people call it "Call of Duty 5" is that in gamers' insatiable appetite for acronyms, "COD5" works much more elegantly than "COD:WAW." Not to mention, it's also shorter to say. Anyway, it's stupid they're not just calling it Call of Duty 5, particularly if:

mohfrontline

Yeah, if they do end up releasing the next one as Call of Duty 6. So we now have a series with a missing number. That's stupid.

I guess that's where people's information is different. He's claiming the next one is 6, which I've never heard, anywhere. But I'm pretty sure I remember fourzerotwo (from Infinity Ward) saying - when World at War was first announced - that Infinity Ward would be doing Call of Duty 5.

Either way, I know it doesn't really matter. I'm just trying to avoid people the "huh?" when COD 5 does come out.

The reason people call World at War CoD5 is because it IS CoD5. I have no idea why there is no "5" in the title, but it literally is CoD5. The next one coming out is CoD6.

http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/callofduty6/news.html?sid=6197777&om_act=convert&om_clk=gsupdates&tag=updates;title;1

In a half-day analysts' presentation yesterday, Activision Publishing president and CEO Mike Griffith confirmed that franchise creator Infinity Ward would be returning to develop the next Call of Duty game, which he referred to as Call of Duty 6 and pegged as a 2009 release.

Lol, well if the next one IS called Call of Duty 5, well we'll call that one CoD5 and the last one CoD:WaW, so your problem is solved. and if it's called Call of Duty 6, then this one TECHNICALLY was CoD5, so in that case people we're somewhat correct calling this CoD5. So either way, this entire post is a little stupid. It doesn't matter, it can be CoD5 for now until the next one comes out. It really doesn't make a difference.

There's a news story on GameSpot claiming that the CEO of Activision called it "Call of Duty 6" (which someone quoted and linked while I was writing this). Eh, who knows. Maybe they'll start giving them subtitles now instead of numbers. (I liked the numbers.)

Dredg11

Eight if don't you count the expansion pack to the first game as a full title. Ten if you count the PS2 version of World at War as a separate game. Maybe this is why they're going to subtitles instead of numbers: The numbering's all screwed up, so they just said to hell with it.

yeah it would sound stupid, but they wont call the next CoD "COD5".  Kinda like the Rocky movies.   They didnt make "Rocky VI" they instead called it Rocky Balboa.  Or Rambo movies.  the first is called First Blood.  Then the 2nd is called Rambo: First Blood Part II.  and the last one was just called Rambo (instead of Rambo IV) and supposedly they are going to make Rambo V in 2009......

Stupid way to do it, but as long as the games/movies are good, it's not a big deal to forget to number them. I think they have to call the next COD game COD6 or just not use a number, since the 5th one is out already.... thats just my opinion.

i know another reason that this is CoD WaW not 5. its too short to be an actual sequel. if they start making more sequels like this the franchise is going to die big time. the game isnt woth 60 bucks unless you want better graphics and a friggin flamethrower. thats why i RENTED it. took me like a bit under 5 hours to beat lol

Yes, it's been anoying me as well, and I even made a topic a bout it a couple months ago as well. But people refuse to call it by it's proper name. As for the whole thing with Infinity ward, the next Call of Duty their making wont be Call of Duty 5 or 6 for that matter. It's just gonna be call Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Who know when/if a legit CoD5 will ever come. At this point should i even care about CoD any more? It's ridiculous. Theres already four Call of Duty games on the 360, soon to be five.

i think people are just stupid in general

the last COD was called COD modern warfare. aka. why the next one will be called COD modern warfare 2.

they should get rid of the old numbers to differentiate between makers of the game. oh wait, thats what they are doing!

SO could the next in the WAW series be called COD WAW 2?

I like how when I google search for info on Call of Duty 5, I get World at War, even the main site is at the top. I don't get why people don't understand that they're using subtitles now to branch off their main series. Since there are two developers making the games, you have the Modern Warfare series by IW and the World at War series by Treyarch.

This is probably their idea to take this path so that they can prolong the franchise and not have new consumers overwhelmed with a Call of Duty 7 in two years instead (Call of Duty: World at War 2), much like the new Modern Warfare that has been announced for 2009. This has been done in the past with Grand Theft Auto, Need for Speed and the Rainbow Six series to give the people a sense that this new title is worth the purchase and not out to just take their money each year.

Havn't been here on a while, job school and gears has been taking up my time lmao;
But honestly, who cares? Just think of it as the Rocky movies, or infact the new Prince Of Persia, aslong as it falls in the place of the series it's good;

Plus Call Of Duty 6 is already rather in development or in the writing process, it's been confirmed.
