A 4 disc 360 JRPG from the creator of he first 10 Final Fantasy games, its gotta be epic.Ket87
agreed
well if youve seen any of my posts you'll no what I think of JRPG's and their barely dressed heroes masquerading as men with bad hair cuts, and that their linear stroylines and annoying gameplay they are pretty much worthless....lol yahtzeeClinton015
My thoughts exactly, and I can't stand turned based fighting.

Yahtzee's rant on JRPGs is funny but not all JRPGs are bad. Hironobu Sakaguchi's are usually pretty good, well I think FFX sucked but thats neither here nor there.
it's prob gonna be great, but i've heard it is on the short side. game informer said 20 hours of gameplay + 20 hours of cutscenes. i'm still waiting for that rpg that takes 50 hours to beat, hasn't been a long rpg since oblivion that was worth playing. blue dragon was great, but it was short (took me less than 30 hours), and eternal sonata was amazing but i beat it in 12 hours. i'm hoping for a good 50+ hours out of this one, but i'll prob wait until the price is a lil lower before i buy it. 60 bucks is hard to pay for a game that lasts about a week.luigismansion101
Dude Oblivion sucks. It's a western RPG. It lacks the storyline element.

And that's exactly why JRPGs near perfect scores on every single game website. Chrono Trigger = "Greatest Games of All Time" feature on Gamespot for the Super Nintendo, and Chrono Cross got a 10. Final Fantasy 7 had a 9.5 along with 8.
GG.
Ok so the deal with this game, someone give me the lay down of how the game works. I know its about this indian lookin guy whos been around longer then dinosours, but specifically, how will the fighting parts be? per-say?CoreoVII
Fighting parts? I'm not sure what you mean by that, but it's a "Traditional Japanese RPG". This means there's a turn-based system and they didn't really try to try new things as far as I know...which is definitely the way to go. RPG is it's own genre, and every RPG done right is a Japanese RPG. You don't play RPG for gameplay (usually), you play it for the mind blowing storylines that no other game genre has to offer.
I like RPGs for the storylines and gameplay though, personally. The turn-based system doesn't really get old for me. This is also a person who has been an FPS junkie for years.
I could probably tell you what it's about but you should go here, scroll down and check out the Developer Walkthrough.
EDIT: K, nevermind that last link. This is a better example.

Btw I updated my last post, check out the new link.

i beleive it was "angsty 20 something year old underdressed girls pretending to be men"

you should try persona 3 over 70 hours and great game
Well if those who "don't like JRPGs" didn't like Final Fantasy or the Chrono series then they're probably not going to like Lost Odyssey.
Though I'll also point out that if one does not like a Japanese RPG, then they do not enjoy the factors such as an actual storyline and lengthy gameplay that actually extends past 5 hours. The Japanese are the founders and fathers of all gaming as we know it and anything that comes from the country should be respected as such. Gaming was on the brink of death when it came to America all those years ago, but alas, Miyamoto came out of nowhere and revived it. Now it's one of the most popular things our country has to offer. Why is this? Because the Japanese know what they're doing when making games. They realize that storylines is an insane, vital importance in the world of gaming...even more so than actual gameplay.
Most importantly, they realize and understand that when players sit down to play a single player game, they want a game they can play for more than 5 hours. I miss the old days of actual effort I must put into getting my party's experience and gear/equipment up to date.
JRPG's have the worst story, they make sense to no one including Japanese people, they are like Japanese horroe movies horrible. Also the character design are usually pretty bad. People fighting with guitars or umbrellas. Come on people.
FFXII on the other had was great, simple story, War. You can like WRPG and JRPG's as long as they are good. Oblivion and FFXII.
Peace.
Oblivion was terrible :X FF12 was good, but the story sucked. The best thing about JRPGs are their deep story lines. The good ones I mean, there are a hell of a lot of crappy JRPGs out there, but when you get a good one, boy is it good. The Final Fantasy Series for instance, deep stories, some of the characters are annoying, but that doesn't take away from the whole experience. Me luvs me Japanese RPGs, but I have to admit a lot of them are quite bland and soul-less (I'm looking at you breath of fire). There's only a few WRPGs I can stand to play, Morrowind being my favorite. Neverwinter Nights 2 is my idea of hell.JRPG's have the worst story, they make sense to no one including Japanese people, they are like Japanese horroe movies horrible. Sounds like you've never played/finished a Japanese RPG.
By deep stories do you mean crazy old drunken Japanese men trying to write something interesting but comes out like someone was crazy and drunken and Japanese. The stories just don't translate to To North Americans in any way shape or form. Japanese people just cannot make stories that make sense. Movies like the Grudge and 99% of JRPGS stories are like trying to watch a guy with 1 arm swim in circles. Have a North American or probably anyother race do the story then you will have a good game.
FFXII's story was great because it was simplified, classical, War and Heroes. I guess you people like stories about frogs that bring people into the dreams or some crap like that. I think war is a pretty good story line for and RPG.

Sounds like you should get an education and learn what interesting stories are. Or maybe your still in pre-school.[QUOTE="Ironfungus"][QUOTE="the05birdman"]From the previews I've seen, it looks like its going to be awesome. I'm picking it up the day its released.RawhideSphinx

By my perfect spelling and grammar I am still in pre-school. Way to go there, buddy. What I've learned from America's idea of a fantasy story is that they know how to make a clone of The Lord of the Rings. The Japanese actually bring new ideas to the table. Interesting ideas. And if you can't see the interest factor then you need to open your eyes a little.

I've seen this post several times now and nobody has even come close to explaining what they mean by JRPG stories making no sense. I think that these people just simply haven't played the games and are automatically bashing them for being popular and point directly to "storylines making no sense."

Yeah but that's general America for you. You give people the option to voice their stupid opinions and sooner or later you have what we now call the United States of America. Certain people shouldn't be allowed to have an opinion, if you ask me.
Onto the topic: This thread was calling JRPG Fans, not people to come into the thread who have obviously never played one in their entire lives. I wanted to hear what JRPG Fans thought about it.
