And the ending hit me like a ton of bricks, I can't believe how attached emotionally I was to the protagonist until his final scene. It wasn't a gung-ho style big finish, it was just a bloke doing the right thing by his family. Wow it hit me hard, I never realised games could project this kind of emotion until now haha. How about you? Did you guys get the same sort of impact from the completion of the game?

I knew it was coming, I googled him, because I thought I'd had heard his voice before, and all I saw was "John Marston;- Deceased" and I had only just started the game. So I was prepared for the end.

The ending for Red Dead Redemption is probably my favourite ending of any game I've played. The way the game sends you back to the family farm for the last few hours is genius. It shows you Marstons regular day to day life, but it also gives you time to get invested in the other members of his family. This is probably why you feel empathy toward his wife and son when they ride back and find his body. I really wasn't expecting John to die. Even when he opened the barn door to face all those guys, I was still thinking he might make it through it alive. I've probably finished hundreds of games where I can't remember how they ended. I doubt I'll ever forget the ending of Red Dead Redemption.

At the end when he opens the barn door you have target them all in dead eye so when I targeted them I thought he might escape. Shame he only killed around half :( There is another mission after that though for the credits to roll in blackwater train station you have to kill the goverment guy.

I didn't want to cry or anything but I was definitely "WHAT THE HELL" It was not a happy ending, which isn't a bad thing. I hated seeing my awesome character die, but it made for a great story. I was more concerned about after-ending-game play. I was wondering if I'd be able to complete some achievements. I also wondered what they were going to do about game add ons. I had an oddly difficult time killing the sheriff at the end though. It took me like 6 tries. Wierd.

While I didn't like the majority of the story of RDR I will say John Marston was a good protagonist and i did feel sad at the ending. And it was even sadder to see that Jack Marston undid everything his dad was trying to do by (MAJOR SPOILERS FOR THSOE WHO HAVEN'T DONE THE "Remember my Family" QUEST) killing the Federal Agent.

This game has arguably the best ending of any game I've played. John Marston is a character you grow to care about and getting to continue the game as his son is epic.

The ending was awesome, although I don't consider that the ending. I was really angry how John actually died. I couldn't believe it. The best part was when
you play as John's kid and go kill the retired old cop that killed his dad. Now that was awesome.
I was really pissed, someone spoiled the ending to me almost an 30 mins before it happened. Cuz of that, it lacked emotional effect on me.

I was just pissed that I didn't get to kill the old guy with the bowler hat as John Marston. I figured something might happen to him but I thought that you'd at least get to kill him from that one mission where John said "I can't wait to put a bullet in your head." It would have been better to have him at least kill the bad guy as John or to get to fight all those guys in like an unwinnable fight where they all storm the barn and you kill as many as you can rather than just have him give up. Fron a logical standpoint it would have given his family more time to escape as well.

He'd done terrible things, by the time he repented it was too late, the law was always going to bring him down. If you see it from the laws point of view, John was a terrible outlaw and murderer.

I probably would have cared if I wasn't nearly bored to death by herding cows and shooting crows. Seriously, those farm life missions at the end were a pain in the rear. Much too long.
