sort of off topic question here (you guys seems to know what you're talking about, didn't want to make a whole thread for my 1 question)

I noticed on the back of the 360 that you can't have the HDMI and component adapter plugged in at same time. I wanted to use HDMI for picture and Optical for audio (hence wanting to plug in component adapter, as optical only exists on this attachment).

If I plug in my 360 to my HDTV via HDMI, then run optical from my TV to my receiver...will I get the same high quality as if I was plugging my 360 optical directly to the receiver?

You can buy an adapter MS sales for I think it is 20-30 bucks or do what I did. I took the crappy composite cables that came with my oricinal 360 and shaved down the plastic around the plug so that my hdmi cable would fit under it and I could still use the optical out. Works just fine! On my other 360 the mad catz VGA cable I had actually was skinny enough for the hdmi to fit under it. I got it for 10 bucks off ebay so that is a good option as well.

VGA. Played some Halo 3 online and wow, the difference is quite huge. I kept dying because I was looking at the brighter, more vibrant colours etc. But in Firefight it's not much different, but the Spartans look a lot better online. Hopefully getting the 360 version of MW2 today, only played it 480i on the PS3 so will be nice to see how that looks.

dude... if you are using VGA cables you arent even displaying in HD.....VGA cannot carry an HD signal. you have to use component or HDMI to get HD resolutions....

HAHA WHAT?!? VGA has been carring hd signals for years now haha. Seriously what do you think most computers used and still use? DVI was not and is not the standard on PC's yet and they use VGA to carry much higher resolutions than 1080p tvs can handle. I have used VGA and HDMI with my 360. I like the colors better with vga on my tv but the one cable for audio and video one out.

you clearly did not read all of the posts in this thread.... learn to get the whole story before posting.

I did in fact read it all. You are wrong the other poster was right. You are getting VGA and RCA confused. Composite cables were called RCA not VGA. So when you educate yourself you can feel free to try and one up others.

Indeed, RCA -- not VGA -- is the same thing is composite. VGA has always been the computer VGA.

I feel bad that he is going to go around the rest of his life not knowing the difference between RCA and VGA.

Just do this, take a trip to lets say... BEST BUY, and ask the guy if they have a HDMI VGA cable that can be connected from the xbox to the tv. Then.. When he shows you them, dont cry too hard.

i remember when i went from sd to hd and played Halo3. I remember not really liking how the game looked, but when i ran games like oblivion and Fifa, i was impressed by the difference.
