like all digital memory devices, the labeled number is not the true number. The 360 20 gb HD only has 14 gb's for example, and I'll bet that the 60 gb is really just 52 gb or something. You are always jipped out of a couple million bytes of data capacity, tis the way of technology.

I have found that the claimed compacity of most things is not the actual space on there.

My 200gig computer harddrive gets me about 180 gigs

my 80 gig ipod gets me 70ish gigs

My 20 gig xbox gets me 14 gigs or so

My 2 gig flash drive 1.74 gigs

Not sure why but that just seems to be the way things are.

Yeah the bastards at apple did that with my ipod"Yes. 4GB. 1000 songs... Perfect heres my money" but to my surprise i could only fit 700 songs and apparently nearly a quarter of the memory was already taxed.Cheap punks.

The way of the world. Hard drives need room for system files and their own cache.

Dont even worry, that is the way its supposed to be and i dont see any way you would use all that memory. When i was going to buy my xbox i was going to get an elite my the gamestop guy warned me i wouldnt need all that extra space unless i was downloading stuff like full movies and tons of aracdegames. There is no way i would be able to use all that space and to save me like 150$ i bought a regular 360 and had 12 or 14 gigs when i got it, Im down to 6 after owning like 16 games and 4 arcades.

Whatever device that uses a large harddrive is always going to use some of the advertised memory to store it's own operating software/etc. Every MP3 player, external harddrive, computer, and 360 is going to experience this in some degree. I wouldn't worry about it too much. 107 gb's is a TON of space. Game saves and downloadable content don't take up that much room, and if you want to listen to music on your 360 just use the PC zune thing to network it to your computer instead of saving all your music on your harddrive.

1 gig in consumer minds = 1000 megs right? 1 gig in actual tech = 1024 megs. SO they market 200gigs and actually take that and subtract the actual ammount from it ... there you go. And system files for the 360 itself which are upwards of 3-4 gigs.

Dude, 107GB is all the space you need. I have around 16 games and download everything availible for most of them. Did I mention I only have a 20GB hard drive? I had 14GB and now I'm at 9. That will last you forever.

This happens with every HDD, if you buy a 250gb hdd for a PC it only has around 230gb for use.

It's not specific to you its something all hdd have.

With xbox 360 some space is reserved for system use, if you have an Hdd in your 360 the system will cache your last 5 games played so they load quicker. it also does other things which i am unsure of.
