Hey.

I just picked up the newly released Xbox 360 Arcade pack. It comes with system/wireless controller/256mb memory card/5 arcade games.

I was just wondering, I am looking to eventually sign up for an Xbox Live account, do I have to have a harddrive? How exactly does Xbox Live work because I thought the 256mb thing was good for me (just for saving games) but now I am wondering if I should pick up a harddrive. What does Xbox Live need the HD for? How much space?

Please let me know because if it does need a harddrive im going to have to go and pick one up.

See if you can return your system and get the Xbox 360 premium i don't understand the whole reason behind the arcade system when downloads take up alot of space you will need a HDD

You will need to get a hard drive evenutally, if you want the full xbox live experience. That's if you want to use the market place, download new maps, and download game updates.

True, I think I can pick up a 20 gig harddrive alone for about 50 dollars. Still, it is cheaper to buy this arcade system for 299 and buying a harddrive for 50 rather than paying 399 for the Premium, even though you get a headset with the premium, heh.

But can I still go and play on Xbox Live with only 256mb of space?

Umm.. you can actually get the Premium for $350 NOT $399... and it comes with 2 free games: Forza 2 and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, which total is $100. So actually you can get a premium /w harddrive and it kinda like it only costs $250... so you got a terrible deal.

The premium is 399 in ALL stores. I live in Canada keep in mind. 299 for arcade and 399 for Premium.

Sorry, so can anybody possibly confirm that you can go on XBOX Live without an HD? I still have lots of space on my 256mb memory card to save my Xbox Live settings I just need to know if a HD is mandatory.

Yeah but even if the Premium is $399 in Canada ....its still worth it because: 1) You get a 20GB HD, 2) You get Forza Motorsport 2 & Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 3) You get The XBL Headset 4) You get the network cable 5) you get Xbox backward compatibility 6) you get component cables

Thats well worth the additional $100....the Arcade is very stripped down.

Yep everything is separate. the only thing the Arcade has over the Core is a wireless controller.
