I was playing GeOW2 last night and I was on a team with a father and son. The son was apparently very young...like less than 10 years old. Like usual.. i dropped a few F-bombs because the other team was glitching and all of a sudden this guy tells me to watch my language because there's a little kid playing.

I ask if they are brothers but he said they are father and son and he said there is no need to swear that much. I apologized for swearing in front of his kid but I told him that it is an M rated game and that he shouldn't let his son play any game online because he'll hear a lot worse than what I said. He replies that everyone has a right to play games and that was the end of it.

I felt a little bad about it but all in all I think this guy should know better.

Yeah, and don't all online games give the "Online Interactions are not rated by the ESRB" warning(or something like that?)

The father should have realized if the game is rated M, that most people playing it would be M(ature) and that he can't control the entire XBL population.

Just my opinion though.

I agree, it's just like online games when someone cries that you swore when there is obviously a CHAT FILTER, or the game is rated as you said. I hate when people flip out about this, seriously if your kid is not mature enough to hear an F bomb then keep them off gaming because it's going to happen 24/7

Youre both at fault. You shouldnt be cursing, and he shouldnt let his 10 year old son play a game aimed for a 17+ audiance.

The father was actually a pretty cool guy other than the fact that he got pissed at me for something stupid. I guess he was just a young father trying to spend time with his kid. Which is better than just letting TV or video games babysit your kid. I just think he should be playing a different game w/ his son.

I'm mean I would have flipped out on the dad. I rarely talk to anyone on live unless I personally know them or they start talking trash, but if his kid is not old enough to hear some swears he shouldn't be playing Gears don't feel bad about it. Have you tried playing Halo lately I love it but kids about that age curse at me everytime I play because they don't like losing or i beat them to a weapon

Not really. There are quite a few studies about cursing and foul langue that demonstrate a correlation with lower general stress and blood pressure levels.

Yeah, because the mark of maturity is measured by the number of f-bombs you drop per minute. The more you drop, the more mature you are. Oh wait...

I use that language to express anger or frustration. So it helps me relieve stress which some would say is good because stress not healthy for you. They are only words.

If he is letting his son play an M rated game than the swearing should be the least of his concerns..

You're totally missing my point. I wasn't swearing to show my maturity. That's something that little kids do. What I'm saying is, as an adult I have the right to swear if I want to. And since the game is made for adults, I assumed that's who I was playing with.

Did you stop swearing after you found out a child was in the game? Don't get me wrong, if it's all adults I'll swear like a drunken sailor, If kids are in the game I don't. There are other ways of expressing yourself, after all.getyeryayasout
No reason he should have to censor himself while playing a game that uses the same language. If he was playing a disney game, then I would understand.

Talk about bad parenting when I was that kids age I was playing super mario brothers on the NES not some mature games. That father is a complete moron regardless of the language used he shouldn't allow his kids to be playing mature rated games. This kid will probably end up doing something stupid later on and blame it on video games.

I would have explained that it is an M Rated game, and it is his right to allow his son to play it, just as it is your right to curse as an adult to express whatever feeling you see fit. I would have told him i understand, but let him know i would NOT being stopping and that if he wishes to avoid it, simply move him and his underage son to another room. You were definitely the wiser of the two, and much more restrained than 99% of the rest of the Live community. He actually got pretty lucky with you. Kudos to your demeanor. But you did nothing wrong, it was his mistake, and he was wrong.

might also have wanted to point out to the dad that it is actually an offense to provide an age rated game to someone who is under age, for example gears which is 18 rated to a 10 year old kid this counts wheher you are selling the game to the kid or buying it for them

Yeah. I did stop after he told me his son was very young. I know that I didn't have to and that he was the one who was wrong but... i don't know... I kinda reminded me of playing Atari with my father when I was a little kid and I just didn't wanna spoil their fun.

a lot of people are too small minded to see the different ways each person lets out stress/anger. egocentrism at its finest.

The Dad is obviously a moron, he's probably divorced and taking care of his kid for the weekend. Instead of not playing video games for a weekend he probably just had the kid play too so that he was "interacting" with his kid, pathetic.

Society is screwed up these days, and the fact is, that you're living in hell, and it only gets worse from hereon [guess which game is this quote from]. But I gotta admit, the guy must be a really cool father - my dad would never do that (I'm in my mid-teens and refrain from swearing online - well, to a certain extent ;) ).
