[QUOTE="Senor_Kami"][QUOTE="yucky_straw"] Ok, Mom! I'm an adult and I was in a social setting intended for mature ppl. yucky_strawYeah, because the mark of maturity is measured by the number of f-bombs you drop per minute. The more you drop, the more mature you are. Oh wait... You're totally missing my point. I wasn't swearing to show my maturity. That's something that little kids do. What I'm saying is, as an adult I have the right to swear if I want to. And since the game is made for adults, I assumed that's who I was playing with. I was just tryna rile you up :) You shoulda told him to take his headset off or play while in a private chat with his pops.
No reason he should have to censor himself while playing a game that uses the same language. If he was playing a disney game, then I would understand.[QUOTE="DaD0ughb0y"][QUOTE="getyeryayasout"]Did you stop swearing after you found out a child was in the game? Don't get me wrong, if it's all adults I'll swear like a drunken sailor, If kids are in the game I don't. There are other ways of expressing yourself, after all.getyeryayasout
While I agree that he has the right to say whatever his little heart desires, it's a simple courtesy to clean-up your language when kids are present.
I somewhat agree. While you should be able to say what you want, and you should always watch what you say around children, you should NOT have to watch what you say in an area where children shouldnt be in the first place. The guy was simple wrong to ask it. Its the same as if some guy asks you to watch your language around his kid while you're in a strip club. The kid simple shouldnt be there, supervised or not. You don't take your kid to a strip club then ask everyone to watch their language and ask all the girls to not get undressed. You have to let the guy know the environment he has brought his kid into is going to expose him to that kind of stuff, and if doesnt want him exposed to it, leave.Sorry why did you post this? its almost meaningless to talk about.sn4k3_64I thought ppl would find it interesting. And it looks like I was right. Almost every topic on this site is meanlingless to talk about.
to be honest this topic reminds me of my own dad lol. im 16, but when i was 5 my dad had me playing Duke Nukem 3D while sitting on his lap. But I wasnt allowed to watch tv shows with fowl language.
To this day my dad is exactly the same, he gets all angry when I watch a movie with alot of cussing, but I'm still allowed to play Unreal Tournament 3 and left 4 dead etc. . I can play GTA 4 but he gets angry when I play GTA 4 and it isn't on mute lol
If he would've talked to me like that I would've proceeded to curse him and the 10 year old out just so the father could realize that "M" rated games are not for youngins. Sure that may be mean and cruel but there needs to be a lesson learned.I was playing GeOW2 last night and I was on a team with a father and son. The son was apparently very young...like less than 10 years old. Like usual.. i dropped a few F-bombs because the other team was glitching and all of a sudden this guy tells me to watch my language because there's a little kid playing.
I ask if they are brothers but he said they are father and son and he said there is no need to swear that much. I apologized for swearing in front of his kid but I told him that it is an M rated game and that he shouldn't let his son play any game online because he'll hear a lot worse than what I said. He replies that everyone has a right to play games and that was the end of it.
I felt a little bad about it but all in all I think this guy should know better.

Not only is it an M rated game, but it has the F bomb in teh game itself. If he doesn tlike you swearing, then he should turn the game off. Everyoen has the rights to play any game, but once you ignore the rating of the game, you waive your rights to protest bad language, since he was warned by the rating. i I were you, i'd have blasted him with many other worse words.Props on handeling it pretty well. The father should relize that when his kid is playing singleplayer on gears2 or COD WAW, characters are swearing right and left, and alot worse then what you said. I can see where the father was coming from somewhat, but i can also see your side just the same. As you said the game is rated M though. I usually dont curse if i know there is a really young kid in the room, actually only time i curse is if someone is being racist to another player or cursing at another player left and right.
Just imageine if that father gets on COD4 with his son.. the cursing is 24-7 when online in that game:P
[QUOTE="mvlbr"]Talk about bad parenting when I was that kids age I was playing super mario brothers on the NES not some mature games. That father is a complete moron regardless of the language used he shouldn't allow his kids to be playing mature rated games. This kid will probably end up doing something stupid later on and blame it on video games.Scorpion16
You know how stupid you sound, bad parenting? For spending time with his kid? For actually paying attention to what his kid plays? Gears 2 is not that severe of an M-rated game. It's gore is exaggerated and cartoony not realistic or disturbing and it's presented in a fantasy like enviroment with aliens as the enemy. If it were GTA IV I might agree but Gears 2 is NOT a hardcore M. Oh and btw when I was that kid's age I was playing Duke Nukem, Quake, and Mortal Kombat :-P. Seriously get off your moral high horse and stop acting like your such a great person because YOU would deny your kid one of the best games of the year. Seriously grow up!
@mvlbr: I agree. The father should give his head a shake. Teaching his kid how "cool" curb stomping and mauling people with chainsaws is all good...but foul language is where he draws the line? Pathetic.
@ Scorpion16: The lack of judgement you show towards what is appropriate or inappropriate for a young child to be playing is astounding. Please, do society a HUGE favor...never have kids.
This compared to the majority of "bad" things that kids could be doing is astoundingly negligible, and so I don't think anyone in here is justified in saying that the guy was a moron or a bad parent. The thing is, if the kid's gonna play the game, he's gonna play the game. I see it as a good thing that the guy was playing with his kid...since when have we condemned people actually doing things with their families? Granted it was a mature setting, but to me it sounds like the guy was just making an attempt to moniter what the kid hears. How many of you in here were allowed to see R rated movies before being of legal age to do so, but your mom was in the seat next to you and covered your eyes when the sex scene came on? Certain parents have different moral values that they try to instill in their kids; obviously the kid's gonna hear the words, it's unavoidable. But the dad's not a bad guy for trying to moderate it a little bit. From the sound of it, he didn't do it in a forceful or rude way, he just asked him to tone it down a bit.
And 1. Video games are in no way comparable to anything real, such as a strip club or killing spree. (Which I might add that most of you guys, myself included, preach this one literally every time Jack Thompson has ever stood up (And no I don't like Jack Thompson, he's a douche)) And 2. Hearing real-life human gamers swearing over the mic is vastly different from hearing Cole drop some bombs every once in a while, again with the moral values thing. And need I remind most of you that Gears in fact has a filter, which I bet during offline gaming the pair had enabled. Obviously I respect you TC for obliging and I can totally see your point of view on the matter, mature setting=mature language, simple as that. But I don't think it's fair to fault the guy for trying.
And yes I swear over Live and all that, but swearing just to spite the guy is a little immature for such a "mature" game, wouldn't you say? Not directed to you TC, but to all those who said they would up the ante.
[QUOTE="Scorpion16"]Jack Thompson is that you? Didn't know you had an account on here. Cash that unemployment check yetThis takes the cake for the dumbest thing ever posted. Excuse me genius but how is letting his child play a game that depicts humans against aliens the same thing as taking a kid to a strip club or molesting him. You sir are a moron who needs to get your head out of your rectum. Lemme guess you also believe that video games caused columbine and virgina tech too right?ch2423
I'm sorry. I didn't realize you were slow. The point is, the game is rated M (for adults) and a strip club is for adults. I have no problem with the kid playing the game, just don't have the dad going around expecting special rules in the match because his son is there. If you are going to be some place you are not meant to be, don't **** when normal things in that environment happen, like swearing.
Wrong the game is rated for players 17 and up not "adults". If it were for adutls it would have been rated AO. At 17 the only things your allowed to do are see R-rated movies and at least where I'm at stay out past curfew. At 17 you can't vote, join the military, and no you can't go to a strip club. So Gears 2 is not for "adults" in the sense that a strip club is, the 17+ is a recommendation and nothing more. It's not pornographic or Grotesquely violent to the point where it ventures into AO territory. Essentially the M-rating is simply a warning to what's in the game not an indication of who it's suitable for.Talk about bad parenting when I was that kids age I was playing super mario brothers on the NES not some mature games. And your lack of logic is astounding. I'm sorry but who made you the guru of what is and isn't suitable for every kid in the world. When you start telling people they are bad parents for what they choose to expose thier kids to, I'm sorry but your an arrogant, pompous, jerk when you do that. The dad has a point, there is a far more likely chance that the kid will pick up that kind of language if he hears it often then he will go around curb stomping and sawing in half people with chainsaws. There's also a language filter on the game as well so if the kid was playing the single player then chances are they were using that. Seriously stop this crap about how the guy is a hypocrite for letting his kid butcher evil aliens but he doesn't want him to be hear that kind of language constantly at his age. Chances are the kid will pick it up when he goes to school but that usually doesn't happen until around junior high. And your lack of logic is astounding. You did the right thing, yucky_straw. I know he was wrong, and he had no right to say that, but you not responding angrily might have possibly saved yet another lawsuit against Microsoft from an idiot trying to get money. Who knows, he might have gotten angry and complained to Microsoft and started problems, so on behalf of the Xbox Live community, thank you. America thanks you.My GF's eight year old brother played San Andreas. When I asked him where he got it, he said his mum bought it for him. When I spoke to her, she said she thought it was ok because all his friends had it.
Now, lets say that he, or one of his friends, went and killed someone. Who would have blame laid at their feet? Him? The Parents? No. It would be Rockstar!
Parents need to be more aware of the rating system, I consider it to be irresponsible to expose kids to this kind of thing as it decensitises them too early. This chap on Xbox live should know better.

I agree 100%. It's nice to see someone else is thinking like that. Lately I will write out a reply like you just did and then I will just sigh, delete it, and ask myself what the point would be. It will likely either be ignored or I would probably get a reply from someone who couldn't take the time to read a post that is longer than one sentence. It's always nice to see people writing out what I don't have the patience to write anymore.
It's an 18 rated game, which drops shed loads of F-bombs anyway, which in my mind a kid that young shouldn't have been playing it in the first place. Seems kind of contradictory to me to let your child play a game with gratuitous violence and adult language, and then proceed to have a go at players online for swearing a few times.
Although that is assuming the child had played the campaign mode I suppose, but the violence in multiplayer is extreme enough so either way he shouldn't have been playing.
[QUOTE="yucky_straw"]He replies that everyone has a right to play games and that was the end of it. i-rock-socksthat is perhaps the worst excuse i have ever heard i would have cussed him outi know aye. that excuse just pissed me off. i would have said. thats the worse excuse ever. and if thats your excuse then dont ****ing complain that a few people curses, the game itself has a few curse words.

Im not really saying your wrong about saying that about bad parenting, but the fact is his dad could of gotten somethin him and his son to play together besides Gears 2. mvlbr was clearly saying that it's the violence in the game. It doesn't matter if its gore or cartoony and not realistic. What about a movie? Thats not realisitic, but it has things on there that you wouldnt want your child to see as for a game that some children shouldnt see. Im a father and I wouldnt want my child playing that game or even watching a movie that has the same aspect of a game. The only difference between them is movies have real people, and games are computer animated with voice overs. Im just saying I wouldnt let my 10 year old child play something like that. Theres cursing online and people curse you can't stop that and it is his fault for taking his child online. The reason I say that (pretty much everybody said in this post) is because he should already expect people saying cursing words. You can't control a whole community online saying don't cuss in from of my kid. When either way the boy sees all the violence in a game (unrealistic), but still controlling over the cursing. It Really doesnt make sense to that point he should of muted the game if he was alright with the boy seeing the violence. The father has his ways of raising a child and I have my own ways of raising my child, but either way if he didnt want his child to hear cussing then the online play isnt good for his kid or the campaign cause they both have cursing. It doesnt make a difference that a AI is cursing or somebody on the headset is it's all the same and the kid shouldnt of been playing the game if he didnt want to have his child hearing that then he shouldn't of let him be playing in the first place. And your lack of logic is astounding. So it's ok for you to do the same thing for the other side of the argument? You are also telling people what is and isn't suitable for people's kids. Wouldn't that make you an arrogant, pompous jerk too? Seems to me you are too young to even be making judgements on this topic. The way you just insult people instead of providing valid rebuttals to their opinions shows that you're probably around the same age as the kid we are talking about.
