Lets just say ill believe it when I see it. M$'s PR department acted as if the original Kinect was the greatest thing to happen to gaming since the analog stick. Even worse, they then alienated the majority of core game development in favor of it. Games like Quantam Break and Titanfall may seem nice but I've been waiting for games like this for a few years only to see dance and fitness Wii games shoved down my throat instead. I'm also not so sure I want to see all this integration added anyway if 2.0 does end up being anything other than another gimmick. Its hard enough playing games as it is after working a 12 hour shift and my entire body feeling like Jello. The last thing I want to do is wave my arms and head around, trying to play a game for long hours or even more than a few minutes.

You don't understand how Kinect works

Kinect was never meant to replace the controller, it was meant to enhance it.

Also I don't understand how you think that there's only dance and fitness games while games like Skyrim and Mass Effect and FIFA are out there.

kinect wasnt very good to start with anyway, 2.0 sucks because it adds 100 bucks to the astounding 500 bucks to the XboxOne.

I disagree. I think the new features and upgrades that Kinect 2 offers are actually pretty impressive. To me the Kinect was never about games with flailing arms. I think gaming will transcend beyond that and use the Kinect as a supplement rather than building games around it. I think it was a great idea to make it mandatory because it means there will be a large audience. This gives developers confident to put effort into developing for it. I think that's the difference between the PS Eye and Kinect 2. With the wide install base, developers will push it to its limits and come up with some cool features. As for people who are complaining about being spied on.. first of all MS already said nothing leaves your Xbox unless you specify it, and that it can be turned off. But even if you don't trust that, think about the fact that you probably have more camera and mic devices in your house than you care to admit. If you really think the government wants to spy on you, then guess what? They already are. They're more than capable of already doing it, so why would the Kinect change anything? Furthermore, why wouldn't they already be able to do that with the original Kinect? I think people are using the whole spying thing as an excuse to justify bashing the X1. In reality, there's nothing to worry about. I think the foil hat is a little tight on some people's heads.

Yet everything these games do have been proven to be fine without Kinect in games like Tom Clancys EndWar. Do you really think an over priced camera is needed to do voice commands? Now there is hype about not needing a television remote even though both Amazon and Walmart sell a voice activated TV remote for $25.

You're thinking of the past. I hated those dance and fitness games too, don't get me wrong, but that's the past. The new Kinect has features that are going to make gaming better. Features like light detection and seeing in the dark, features like reading your heartbeat. Features like sensing how much pressure you put on a body part or which way you're leaning. Features like being able to map your orientation.

We're not just talking about flailing arms anymore. We're talking about using these features to supplement gaming. Think about being able to play a horror game in the dark and the Kinect senses your heartbeat slowing down (as in you're calm) and picks an opportune moment to scare the hell out of you. And that's just what I can think of. Imagine what developers will think of. There's some really clever and imaginative ones out there that will do wonders with it. You need to start thinking forward. This is precisely why I believe the PS4 is doing nothing to move gaming forward. I'm not trying to bash the other console but to me a company that never takes risks like the Kinect will never get gaming to the future.

Take a look at this video. It's actually very impressive. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7GBUeHv_Ts

I tried to think forward when they hyped the first Kinect and was one of its biggest defenders. If they can pull all this stuff off, that's great I guess I'll just believe it when I see it. There is no gaurentee that this stuff will work as well as claimed and my stance with Microsoft right now is "Prove Me Wrong". I've been gaming with this brand since the 2001 launch and during the last three or four years, I've been kind of disappointed. Its like everything that was great about the Xbox brand died with the departure of J Allard. I try to keep an open mind but its kind of hard. Maybe if they wouldn't have touted this thing as a soccer mom machine to begin with and an endorsement from Oprah, I would think different but as of now, Microsoft has a lot of proving to do.

Even if the spying were true, I don't care since I'm not cooking meth or making snuff films in my living room. If someone in Redmond wants to watch me eat a Hot Pocket or sing along to a TV show's theme song, they can help themselves.

I can understand the need for all in one when it comes to Kinect

Also Kinect makes games better, FIFA and Forza are two examples.

In FIFA you can command your team while playing and never take your hands off the controls.

In Forza you can speak what destination you want and it sets your GPS that way, things I've been able to do in my car for almost a decade now.

If they wanted to watch you eat a hot pocket, they probably already could. It's not that hard to spy on people, not to mention you probably have other camera devices and stuff in your house. What makes people think Kinect is any different?

If you're just using the Kinect as a voice input device, I don't think you understand how Kinect works. A headset could do the same thing and cost way less than $100. This is why the Kinect is useless. Even the people defending it don't know how to actually use it.

A simple headset will not be able to decipher what you're saying. The Kinect is what does that. It has voice input and recognition capabilities. Furthermore, voice input is but one feature of the Kinect. If you're really going to bash the device and say it's not worth $100 and only mention voice input, then you are the one who has no idea how to use it.

No, it's obvious you don't understand how this works

Kinect is a completely inclusive device, it does everything and it's always there.

A headset is as stupid as 3D glasses, something you need to wear to make it work.

One of the reasons Kinect works seamlessly in all it's applications is because it's always there.

46,000 posts between you both and neither can read, amazing. Go back, read the replies and try again. wwervin, so how was Endwar able to do voice commands through the headset without Kinect? Magic? Jaysonguy, all you've mentioned is the voice command feature so far. I'm just going by what you've provided. Enlighten us, how else did the Kinect make gaming new and exciting?

That's what I use it for mostly

I have played Gunstringer and Wreckateer and those are good as well and they need motions

The whole idea is to open up things like voice commands and head tracking for games. As I've said many times in this forum, Microsoft has no intention of getting rid of the controller.

Now there's people who want dance and exercise games and all that, they're more then welcome on the console too.

Kinect allows all these different types of players to have something that's out of the way that can work with anything.

This entire thing isn't complicated, by adding Kinect you attract casuals (the only demographic that matters when it comes to games) and you allow devs to give veteran players more control options either by voice or motion.

Easily the smartest post I've seen in 2013. You explained it perfectly, and that's how I see Kinect as well....I never got into the Kinect-only games, but I really enjoyed the Kinect implementation in some of the other titles like Mass Effect 3 & Skyrim(via a massive free update too). It complements and enhances the gaming experience, and what we saw with Kinect 1 is just the tip of the iceberg. I've been gaming since the Atari 2600, and this is a breath of fresh air.... I can't wait to see what they will do with Kinect 2.0 .

For some reason when people talk about Kinect, they forget it's MS we're talking about. They aren't going to abandon gamers and make everything require Kinect. It's still a peripheral even if it is "required" to run the system. It can only make games better (for the most part) because it is an optional device for those who want to use it. But the install base guarantees devs that we will have access to their games and that's the most important part. From that comes risk and innovation and that equals great games.

So its trolling to question the necessity of a $100 accessory in a post about that accessory being a bad idea? And then when you are unable to answer simple questions about said accessory, just ban 'em. Great debate skills you guys have. You'd think after wasting so much of your life on here you'd be better at this.

So its trolling to question the necessity of a $100 accessory in a post about that accessory being a bad idea? And then when you are unable to answer simple questions about said accessory, just ban 'em. Great debate skills you guys have. You'd think after wasting so much of your life on here you'd be better at this.

You're not allowed to change someone's post and than quote it like you did. I mean it's childish yeah and we know you have no argument anyways, but it's also against the TOS. That's why he suggested you change it.

Ps4 fanboys are looking for excuses to troll the xbox one. Like " THE KINECT WIL SPY ON ME!". That's totally BS your f**king IPhone can spy on you and I don't see you complaining about that. Whenever you go out it public you get speed on. I don't see you complaining about that

I don't like kinect but I don't care that it comes with the new system. What I am strongly against is how MS is making it mandantory and have an agreement with the NSA to record and monitor all it's customers and they give that info out. They are also very likely to sell info to other companies and there is nothing you can do about it. This is a HUGE invasion of privacy and people are over looking it. I won't be getting xbox one for the sole reason I don't believe all the things I say or type should be recorded.. I'm not a prisoner, I'm supposed to live in the land of the free.

I really wish it was optional. As it is right now it's the main thing holding me back from purchasing the X1.

But the positive is that at least revs are free to be more creative with it knowing every One owner will have it.

i bet you guys hate kinect 2.0 when it completely ruins xbox one sales and then the dev studio's and publishers no longer find it profitable to make games for a system that has a low install base. --> see wiiu as an example.<--
