L4D THE most overrated game ever?

^ what the title says. cant believe that every reviewer gave this garbage of a game a good review. i would rather play nazi zombies on COD 5, and that was a free add-on to an already great game. this game should have been an add-on to the orange box, and cost half as much at most. $65 to do the same thing over, and over, and over again? nikka please!! this game is now added to my list of games that successfully gets away with the same repetitive crap, and actually gets praised for it. some others on this list... the GOWs and Halos (from game to game, not individually).

 Valve are  working on content much like they are with TF2. I don't know what the content is going to be, your guess is as good as mine.

I read the post TC, and I was right in my original assessment.

I'm not sure if this guy is a troll or not but he's played COD 4 and WAW, Madden, Far Cry 2 and Fallout 3.  I'm not really sure what's so different about COD and L4D.  COD is run, get behind cover, shoot, run, get behind cover shoot.  But that doesn't mean that it isn't a great game.  GOW and Halo may be the same thing over and over but that doesn't mean they aren't great games. 

Most games are pretty much the same thing over and over.  Variety in gameplay isn't what makes them fun it's how well the core gameplay mechanics are implemented.  Mario is the same thing over and over but because the platforming is done perfectly it's a great game.  Look at the Cabela's hunting games.  They're shooters where you basically do the same thing over and over again but they aren't fun because the gameplay mechanics aren't done very well.  That's why Halo, GOW, COD and yes L4D are fun games because their core gameplay mechanics are implemented very well.

I agree that it is overrated...probably not the most overrated ever though ha. I bought it on friday knowing that it wasn't going to be deep or anything like that, so i wasn't really disappointed. It is definitely fun to play with friends, but the fun ends there and you realize it is a very shallow experience. I know people dont like when others complain about there only being 4 levels...but come on, that is ridiculous on a full priced game. The "replayability" everyone is talking about isn't what i thought it would be either. Overall, yes, definitely overrated 

I'll give you some reasons. Because the game forces cooperation between teammates. In Gears or Halo co-op you can get away with going solo. In L4D you have to stick together and help each other to survive. If you want variety you should play versus. You take turns with the other team being the special infected and the survivors. There are few things more satisfying than vomiting on the survivors as the Boomer and watching as the infected swarm them. Getting into a match where people are working together makes this game an awesome experience.

Also in the future if you want opinions on why the game is good maybe you should say so in the first post.

So you haven't even played the game yet?!? I was ready to have a sensible debate with you, but this is just trolling as far as I'm concerned. Please play the full retail release before you judge a game.

I wasn't trying to start a fight with you.  I just wanted to offer an opinion.  If you would read my post a little better you would see that I'm not comparing the actual gameplay mechanics.  You're complaining that L4D is the same thing over and over.  I'm saying that all the games that you've played are the same thing over and over too.  What makes them great isn't the variety it's that their gameplay mechanics are well done.  The Cabela's games are the same thing over and over again but that isn't what makes them bad.  The terrible gameplay is what makes them bad.

And you make it sound like you should get an award for having played all of the Fallouts.  Well I have too so pin a medal on my chest.  

Fair enough. It definitely seems to be love it or hate it with this game. I don't love it but I do enjoy playing versus alot. Maybe if you got the chance to play versus it would change your mind. I haven't even played the campaign because I'm having so much fun with it. I think the shooting works really well.matt3456

why would i buy the game, after making a reasonable conclusion after playing through the demo that I dont like the type of game it is? are you going to argue with me, and try and tell me that the full version is so much more deverse? probably not, because every player review I read says it isn't.bcjkdem

Well, maybe it has something to do with you saying, "every reviewer gave this garbage of a game a good review." And your solely basing your opinion on the demo alone. I'm saying, play the full retail release before you make such claims.

I hate when as soon as someone says something bad about a big game there's always someone there to say something like, "quit bashing this game, it's great!" if it's ok for ppl to make topic where everyone says how great a game is, then it should be ok to make a topic where everyone tells the truth abou... cough cough... i mean, says how bad they think the game is....

Bceause when you attack a critically acclaimed game with no meaningful reasons as to why you hate it, of course people are going to defend it.

Neither does it change the fact you've attempted to pick a fight with everyone in this thread who has disagreed with you, and then have the gall to call ME biased? Sorry dude it doesn't work that way in the real world.

I don't think it was over-rated. However, there simply isn't enough content to keep you coming back for more. After killing over 33,000 Zombies, picking up most of the achievements and experiencing plenty of multiplayer/co op sessions this game has nothing else to offer. The longevity is not there and definitely isn't worth sixty dollars. This is a rental at best until extra content is added.MsCortana

Definitely, I'm sure if they release some cool versus map packs and an extra campaign or two it will seem worth it, but out of the box it's hard to justify the price tag.

I find it interesting that people say it's not worth $60 or that it should be a rental. For example, Ms. Cortana says she has killed over 33,000 zombies. I've played the game for over 30+ hours and have only killed about 15,000 (for those of you who are wondering what this means, the game keeps track of how many zombies you kill). Now, maybe she just tossed that number out, I dunno, but playing a game for 30+ hours (these days) certainley warrants my $60 and doing that with a rental would be quite the feat (of course, if you want to take personal vacation time, be my guest).

I write this not to bash anyone, but I have to imagine there are people out there trying to decide if they should get this game or not. I'll try to help you out-

Get this game IF:

1. You plan on playing online

2. Your friends don't have to have this game for you to enjoy, but you will want to make friends with people in the lobbies you meet.

3. You plan on using the mic to communicate.

4. You like using your mind. Yes, I said "Mind". I can understand how at first glance people say it is "mindless", but I assure you, it's anything but that if you want to be good at the game. You absolutely need to plan, strategize, and communicate with your teammates if you want to survive harder difficulties or rule at versus mode. It's only mindless on easy and normal b/c it's hardly a challenge to experienced gamers. I could write more on how it's not mindless but this post is long enough.

5. You enjoy seeing the synergy of proper teamwork.

Bad economy, and huge holiday competition that all delivered...now is a bad time for Valve to want 60$ for a game that's so light on content.

Honestly I don't see the 360 L4D community lasting more than 2 months. It's an awesome game, there should have been more content though.

It blows my mind, the company that released The Orange Box, the greatest value in gaming...I guess they make up for it by making a light multiplayer shooter template(L4D) and charging 12$ for the same old Portal...
