Launch Xbox just RRoD - Repair Charges???

I bought a console and launch and then started seeing threads for the RRoD, then saw MS extend the warranty to 3 years. But my console was still going strong. Yet it seemed like an inevitablity that mine would eventually die. I even considered killing it before the 3 years ended (which to my understanding ended for launch console purchasers last Nov)

Long story short - put in Fable 2 Friday, it crashed, RRoD came up. I was like WTF - seriously, so soon after the warranty expired. I had every intention of chewing out the person I was about to talk to on 1-800-MY-XBOX but it turns out, I didn't need to.

I told her it was a launch console, she made sure it was registered online, told me to send it in and they would pay for the shipping (gave me a shipping label) and then said that it would be free because MS extended the warranty to three years.

She also said that they would include a one month free Gold subscription when they returned the Xbox.....

Lets just say I didn't argue. I made sure to get her name and the reference number in case they tried to charge me (which I don't know how they could because they don't have my credit card info).

Did you guys know that it is still free

Cool. Perhaps a slip up on her behalf but you've got her word if they try and charge you.

The repair center will probably check the date code and see you're no longer in warranty and send it back. lol but if they dont, congratulations to you and your great success!

Damn you should give me her name, my warranty ended 2 weeks ago. I bet my Xbox will die real soon.

good job, on that. i actually had my hard drive and 360 die on me. the first time i called the guy was great. i called told them i had the problem he looks saids my warranty is up by one day he will talk to my manager ask for a one day waranty. i get it they sent me a box. yesterday i had a problem. i go to my friend's house put in my hard drive got a drive error. i told her she said ok it will be 99 to fix. i said i'm not paying that if u look my warranty expired and i already called about one problem. i said let me talk to a manager. i get a manager i told him that my xbox died couple days ago and now my hard drive... so i'm waiting for two boxes to come so i can get them repaired....
