so taken directly from bungie.net

Thank you for making our 20th Anniversary, and this year's Bungie Day, kick so much ass. As we prepare to become fans of the universe our studio began creating more than ten years ago, it's nice to know that we'll be counted among such esteemed company. Some might consider the upcoming transition a bittersweet occasion punctuated by a sense of loss and sadness. We feel otherwise. Halo is in great hands…yours.

These last two weeks have been a celebration for us – a reminder of just why these last two decades have been so uniquely special for Bungie. More than ever we are humbled by your dedication and your loyalty (and now, even by your Halo: Reach skills…ouch). To date, you've helped us raise a mountain of money for charity and we're still going strong. Items can still be purchased throughthe Bungie Storeand Xbox LIVE Avatar items can still bepurchased on the Xbox Marketplacethrough September.

While all profits from your generous purchases of Bungie 20th Anniversary swag and commemorative items are being donated to charity through the Bungie Foundation, for us the Blue Flames, the studio memorabilia, and even the swag from our own desks and filing cabinets were all part of a long overdue symbolic gesture. Halo is yours now. In many ways, it always has been. Its new caretakers will strive, just as we did, to be worthy stewards but you have the package. Hold these characters and stories and worlds to the same unflinching standards you did while we were at the helm, but allow them all to blossom and change and grow in the ways that they must.

We'll be undergoing a metamorphosis of our own. Very soon Bungie.net will change, culminating with the launch of our next universe at some unknown time in the future. The first small steps will be taken soon, with Halo playlist management changing hands on August 2nd, the very same day we plan to deploy our parting thoughts on the last twenty years through a ViDoc titled, "O Brave New Worlds."

Afterwards, we'll be going dark on our studio's next major endeavor – the creation of a brand new universe. You'll still have a home here should you choose to stay, but our next project demands an unwavering focus. We owe it to ourselves to make something better than we ever have before. We owe it to you, as well.

So, this isn't a goodbye. It isn't The End. Instead, it's the very beginning of a new journey that will stretch the limits of what we are capable of. Ancient engines are now rumbling deep within the heart of our studio, and their energy will power us through the upcoming darkness. Like all dark times ours will be broken first by a single strand of light – a tether reaching out to bind us all together again. One day, we will awaken in a wondrous new place and we will remember just what it was that drew us together at the beginning of it all. We will look up to the heavens, and find hope.

Thank you for everything.

See you starside.

Unquestionable proof of someone who hasn't played the aforementioned games... Fanboys are bad, but their antithesis is much, much worse. Anyway, I agree with Dave442, the last paragraph is going too far. It comes off as unsincere and a little bit crazy. But it will be interesting to see where halo goes from here.

I might be asking a stupid question because maybe everybody in the Halo universe might know the answer to this, but is Bungie going to make games for the other 2 consoles or will Bungie be Xbox exclusive.

they will release projects for any console they want they have a deal with activision for 10 years which makes it a bit more propense to be multiplatform, plus they are hiring for PS3 programmers (theres is an add on their site)

I'm hoping that last paragraph is not so much an overboard attempt to tug at heart strings, but more of a hint at something related to their next project.

I am happy that they can work on something besides Halo now, as much as I still love Halo, but it will be sad to see Halo taken from their hands. I mean, since 2001, Bungie = Halo. And now that isn't the case.

So you hate quality developers who listen to feedback, pack their games full of features and actually are in touch with their community?

Because they release a top quality game that you didn't happen to like, 200+ people should lose their jobs.

People like you on the Internet really piss me off.

Seriously mister "Microsoft1234". Bungie has been one of the best developers when it comes to feedback, consistent *free* content, great DLC, and overall being polite at events and at least acting like they are having fun whether they are or not (I'm thoroughly convinced that they are). Would you rather have Infinity Ward make your game? Would you rather have problems that could easily be patched still be in your game from 2009? Would you rather the developer and publisher abandon one of their best (and best selling) games ever?

no they have not, their multiplayer has decreased the skill gap, the theater has gotten worse, forge world was a botched idea because of the massive map that has to be loaded leading to frame rate issues, firefight was a joke, and they've admitted the multiplayer from halo 1 (the best multiplayer in the series on mechancs) was a last second addition. They've gotten worse. by regular standards, reach is a good game. By Halo standard it's not.

in touch with their community? yes and no. the whole community complains about armor lock and it is definitely broken. What do they do? nothing. When the melee system is a complete joke, what do they do? write a story on their front page on how the melee system works like we're 8 years old. When theater only allows one person in at a time what do they do? nothing. Look i understand people enjoying bungie. but i look at it as they've gotten worse and worse in multiplayer. ODST was a joke. Reach's multiplayer is fixable but bungie won't do anything. they're a company that's going to have a hard time without the halo franchise.

Because Bungie patches, supports and respects their gamers, and come out with good, appropriately priced DLC, and Infinity Ward does not.

ok infinity Ward doesn't do that, but most companies do everything you mentioned. Valve, EA, hell even the nba 2k series does that as well. I'm not saying bungies bad. They just haven't gotten better in terms of developing. They do treat their community well, that's agreeable-but it's debatable if they can treat their base better. as previous posters have suggested.

What about the people that like armor lock? I also prefer that there's no bleed through.

I suppose they should just ignore the people like me and focus on the ones that piss and moan about everything just because Halo Reach is not the exact same game as Halo 3.

I for one welcome change and appreciate everything they tried to do with Reach and the direction they took. I think it works.

On one hand you have people saying " Halo is the same rehashed crap over and over, nothing changes" and on the flipside you have people saying " oh noes, it's too different from Halo 3, I hate bloom. Why didn't you just release the same game you did three years ago?"

What exactly would you do if you were Bungie? Not very much you could do really because it's impossible to please everyone.

Halo will always be one of the greatest games ever made, and it is sad to not see Bungie's name on Halo 4, but their next game will be great and i cant wait for it. So far it looks like 343 will take good care of the series, and the anniversery game looks awesome. Farewell Bungie see you starside.

hitscan halo 3, and make the br a 3 shot weapon. Woulda completely altered gameplay the way halo 2 did and halo 3. (i realize br was 4 shot both times, but the hitscan factor plays in alot). Bloom was a great idea theoretically, but botched implentation. Also that doesn't give them a passby for the forge world, theater, and firefight. They still have alot to explain about that.

What exactly is wrong with all you listed? I've spent a lot of time in Forge World, never run into any issues, theatre mode could be better but it's still one of the best video recording systems on a console. Yes you can't view your videos with a friend but that hardly makes Reach a terrible game does it?! At least you have the option to do all of that.

And Firefight? I honestly have no idea what you have against this.

It seems most Halo fans were spoiled rotten by previous Bungie games; always top quality, great MP, great replay value, chock a block full of content. A few things change and they forget how great the games are. How many other games offer all of the above? Yet you still complain.

God, you people annoy me, you act like children.

I feel sorry for Bungie having "fans" like you.

I agree that the first Halo was great. The second introduced multiplayer online. The rest was garbage and the worst part is how Bungie treats their community. Don't go away angry Bungie, just go away.

You'll have to explain to me exactly how Bungie treats their fans badly.

Bungie is renowned for keeping in touch with their community so that statement makes absolutely no sense to me. Perhaps you're getting them mixed up with Infinity Ward or EA?

They'reeasily one of the best developers out there.

I agree with ya.. Bungie actually listened to the discussions about the games and made appropriate changes when they needed to. IW basically laughed at us on their forums when we pointed out things we wanted in the game, presumably while counting a wad of cash. I hope the new company is even half as great as Bungie.

[QUOTE="Microsoft1234"]hitscan halo 3, and make the br a 3 shot weapon. They still have alot to explain about that. balfe1990

I feel sorry for Bungie having "fans" like you.

forge world was a great idea, but the reason it is implented so poorly is you ahve to load that massive map which leads to frame rate issues in multiplayer quite frequently. The theater got worse, not the only one, but enough to know that it "didn't improve" -that's what i'm trying to state. Firefight is a joke in comparison to horde/nazi zombies. not to mention reach firefight is worse than odst's. Fans weren't spoiled-bungie got lucky and proved to me over the last games that they never had any idea what they were doing multiplayer wise. Halo 1 multiplayer implemented last second, halo 2 multiplayer saved by button combos (glitches not intended for game), halo 3 was a mess, reach is an even bigger mess, and odst had a great musical score, that's it. if you compare halo to games today, it holds up well. but comparing it to past halo's. It's unfortunate to say bungie doesn't know what they're doing. But it's true.

they treat their fans in the way that they're arrogant, re-read that article on the melee system. They're talking to their base like they're children. when in fact the melee system was a complete joke if you care about skill. Their maps have no value for competitive gaming, it's like they don't even try. Look they treat fans well, but they can definitely improve. The fact that they haven't even considered changing bloom or refining it proves to me they're not the best.

*facepalm*-why do u guys keep bringing up infinity ward. yes bungie's better than them, but that doesn't make them a "great" developer like some claim. It just means bungie's better than a horrible one.

Halo will always be one of the greatest games ever made, and it is sad to not see Bungie's name on Halo 4, but their next game will be great and i cant wait for it. So far it looks like 343 will take good care of the series, and the anniversery game looks awesome. Farewell Bungie see you starside.xXxIRyanxXx
see i don't get this "we'll be fine"-i don't know that. and it's only been confirmed less than 5 bungie employees are coming over which is a good or bad thing depending on who you ask. But saying they'll take good care, is as bad as saying that halo 4 will suck. We just don't know yet.

*facepalm* because IW is a terrible company when it comes to listening to their fans. I was making a comparison between a terrible company and a good one. No, comparing Bungie to IW doesn't make them a "great developer" it just shows 2 separate sides of the spectrum. What makes Bungie great is what I wrote in my initial post (had you actually taken the time to read it). They actually listen to most of their fans and try to add things to the game that fans love. They don't just sit back and count their money like IW, they actively take part in creating a better community on Halo. That's what makes them great. *facepalm*

Yet another statement that is non-sensical to me. How is it "worse than odst's" which didn't even have Matchmaking for God's sake.

I suppose the ability to change every facet of gameplay concieveable makes it pretty bad. Yeah, God, that endless list of changeable options that Firefight provides to mix up the action and make sure it stays fresh indefinitely was a pretty poor design choice.:|

A nice letter from Bungie so see ya Starside!. Plus this means Bungies next game(s) will be on Playstation 3 & Playstation 4. iPad 2, Nintendo Wii U, 3DS and PSvita. As well as Xbox 360 and the third Xbox.

Loved the Halo series but I'm ready for a new game from Bungie.

Am I the only one who sees the good in Halo Reach? I don't care what you say, Bungie is hands down the best when it comes to listening to their community. Sure they can't make everyone happy, but they makes things very fun. With XP events, free maps (even though it's all forge world), and fair priced dlc. And no; things in this game aren't perfect. The MP can be glitchy and annoying. But playing with my friends is the best part about this game. You can moan and moan about every aspect if you want. But when it all boils down, it's about having fun with your friends. And Bungie makes it to where you can have fun. Believe me or not. I'm out.

I honestly don't see the problems with Reach, it's a great game and they changed up Halo (which is more than that "other" franchise has ever done), and for the people complaining about armor lock, if you can't get around armor lock play one of the many playlists that don't have it. And this doesn't really matter, but I've never had frame rate problems playing any maps in forge world, it runs silky smooth just like every other Halo game.

infinite lives take out the fun of firefight in reach, and not to mentino the specific sniper and rocket ones. It's not really fun when you don't get punished for dying. But that's just me and every competitive gamer out there, it's not even that firefight is intense or anything-but it's hella bad now.

yes you have, you probably haven't noticed it though. It occurs on all forgeworld maps in matchmaking. There's more stuff broken about reach than armor lock.

I like ODST! Not worth the full $60 by far, I'm glad I waited, but the atmosphere is great and unlike anything in any other Halo. The music was also some of the best. The gameplay was average, but only as far as Halo is concerned. It was still good, solid fun.
