Personally, I think the achievement point system on the 360 makes games all the more fun to play. However, I think ony some companies really put some time and effort into allocating their points, while the others seem to just throw them in there at the last minute (or so it seems). I personally find, that a game with a good achievement point layout adds a huge amount to the fun factor of the game. In fact, I think I am more likely to finish the game, or simply play it longer if the achievement points make sense.

A good achievement point layout in my opinion, is a game that gives the player a good portion of the achievment points from playing the single player. This may include passing through certain levels, having a certain number of kills, etc. While another portion is meant for the online experiance. The main idea is, every achievement makes sense.

Examples of a bad achievement point layout is a game that gives you almost no achievement points for completing the single player on normal settings. Usually the points are allocated mostly in tedious tasks that a user would have absolutely no fun in obtaining.

So what games do you think have a good achievement point layout? Here is my list

Games with a good achievement point layout
Gears of War
Rainbow Six: Vegas
COD2
COD3
NBA Street: Home Court
Viva Pinata
Oblivion

Games with an awful achievement point layout

Burnout: Revenge

(I'll edit more in as I remember them. Note that I am not listing games that have a mediocre layout, the ones that are really good and really bad)

Fight Night Round 3 has the worst achievement setup. There are no multiplayer achievements whatsoever, and all of the single player ones can be obtained by just merely playing through the career mode.

I don't find COD2's layout being good... you don't get reward for playing lower difficulties unlike Gears.

I think Oblivion has an excellent achievement layout. It all comes through the course of natural playing of the game rather than rediculous things like collecting little gizmos throughout the game or killing a million players/creatures or whatever. All the achievements come from someone just playing the game naturally, and yet it takes a long time to get them all.

Oh yah, I totally forgot about Oblivion! I agree with you too about the achievements that make you collect things. I mean seriously, who in the world wants to collect things throughout a game for fun. Lost Planet is a prime example of that, in it, you have to collect roughly 5-7 items for all of its levels, on all 4 difficulty settings to get this one achievement.

i like dead rising's achievements. furthermore, i think achievements are getting boring. they add replay value to games that are 7 hours long because the games are 7 hours long. what happened to the 15+ hour games?

Test Drive Unlimited is the best. Call of Duty 2 is the worst.

While I loved GRAW, not only did it have funky achievements, but the layout was terrible. 2 points for Co-Op? I think I'll pass.

I personally think you should cut COD2 from the good list. There aren't any multiplayer achievements and the single player achievements are spread out enough. Also NFS: MW had a pretty weak layout. All you had to do was play through the game, even though there's a huge challenge section and online multiplayer. Crackdown has a really good achievement layout. Double Agent has a good one, too, but the one for beating the single player on Hard I could not imagine getting. I couldn't even get through the first level on that difficulty...

What is wrong with Burnout Revenge exacty? Its tough, sure, but I think its alright. Smash TV is horrid. Test Drive Unlimited is great. Moto GP is a pain! Oh and SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, by far the worst!

I agree with taking out CoD 2. Veteran was way too hard, and I forgot about Crackdown, It's achievements worked really well.

Yah, and what got me heated was the fact that you HAD to play it on normal and hard to get the single player achievement. You wern't allowed to simply play it on Hard and get the Normal achievements along the way.

R6, COD 3 (not 2), Oblivion, Viva Pinata,

PS: don't get me wrong, I liked COD 2 better than 3, but in COD 2 you get all the achievements by completing the game on veteran.

GRAW has had the worst achievements imo, they NEED to be multplie of 5, and not "climb to the top of the solo universal leaderboard" i mean come on.

I love the layouts of Gears and Rainbow Six. They both have easily attainable ones, and harder ones. The hardest for each being the 10,000 kills and reaching Elite (legitimately), respectively. The worst I've come across is GRAW 1, the points assigned were not standardized, and they seemed silly to me.
