My 360 didn't pass the IP Address thing, and i realized it was that themodem wasn't compatible with xbox live. So if i buy a router, and set it up tothe modem, will it work, or do i need to get a new modem?

Are you talking about a dialup modem? If so, that probably isn't going to work regardless unless you have an incredible connection. If you're talking about DSL or cable, what model is it? It really depends on what the compatibility issue is.

nah its cable (comcast), i went on xbox.com and it said the model of the modemwouldn't work
Again it depends on the specific compatibility issue. A model number would help. One of the few things that makes sense to me is that the modem doesn't support the high range TCP/UDP ports used by XBL. In that case, a router may help since it uses NAT and changes the port numbers. The other thing to look for is a possible flash update for your modem. Maybe you can borrow someone's router before spending the money.
