My xbox recently cratered, taking my hard drive along with it. The replacement was quick, and i have a nice new machine with a nice new HDD. but i am paranoid about having lost ALL of my saved game Data.

Being that we all pay handsomely for xbox live, i think that they should offer hosting of save game backups, where after any game session you can tell it to backup, and it sends your saved game to a server to sit until your next xbox breaks.

THAT would be a great feature

Or you can buy a memory card and save onto both your HD and memory card.

I'm certain you can find one a lot cheaper than that. Try Ebay or Craigslist lots of arcade users get HDs then have no use for the memory card.

I will admit 50 dollars for LIVE does seem a bit steep considering other platforms have free online.

However, having an online storage program like that would make LIVE way more expensive.

Cracks me up when people gripe about $50/YEAR. Really? You can't spend in one year what most people make more than in one day? This hefty fee giving you a service that far surpasses any of the OTHER free online experiences. Have you checked out the Playstation Network? Outside of a slick interface did you see anything remotely close to what Live offers?

In closing, COME ON ... $4.17/month? Are those tears?

That is all

/end rant (LoL)

look at all the space that gmail, aol, hotmail, etc, give their users, and those sites are free. we pay for LIVE, and i think freeing up half a gig for each user would be quite easy

xbox live is about 15 cents a day. if you cant afford that than maybe gaming isnt the best choise of hobbies for you. the only thing that gets me mad is when you have to pay 10$ a month on top of the $50 a year for games like phantasy star universe.

I think you're forgetting that those sites get money from tons of advertisements, LIVE has very few (if any at all) commercial advertisements on xbox. And freeing up 512mb for each user would NOT be easy. There are so many LIVE users that even a terabyte would only grant storage to a small town.

there are 17 million Live users. Probably around 10 million gold users. that is not that many people for a company like Microsoft to make servers for

Hmmm.... Interesting concept. I know someone said you could just buy a memory card, but those are expensive in their own right, and it seems like the premise of your point is based on saving money. I'd say that you're right, but I don't know how creating servers or content works, and how difficult it would be for xbox live developers to do that. But if it's feasible, that would definitely be a nice feature.

Okay so for Gold users, Microsoft would need a server (or multiple servers equaling) more than 512TB... Think about it. It doesn't make ANY sense from a business standpoint.

when a company is bringing in 50 dollars/year X 10 Million subscribers, ( that =500,000,000 dollars/year) they can afford those servers with that and still have enough to make a hefty profit

Yes that's a lot of money, but you have to think of it from a business standpoint- 10 million people already have LIVE, It's already been decided that it's the premier online service for consoles, and Microsoft is one of the greediest corporations in the world. So why should they spend more of their precious money on something that isn't needed? Either way, that $500,000,000 isn't just going towards profit. Microsoft is constantly updating and improving the service and the servers it already has. That money doesn't go nearly as far as you would think when you consider wages and the fact that you're supplying millions of people with a service into the equation.

dont get me wrong, i think LIVE is great. but when you think about it, it is charging us money for P2P multiplayer w/o dedicated servers, showing us ads, and PSN is rapidly catching up in every area. it would really show the value for the money, which in this economy, the businesses that can show value for the customer are the ones that will prosper

also, how does Sony keep improving their services and paying wages and all of that without charging to use PSN?
