Anyone else impressed with this game? I was expecting a run of the mill JRPG but how pleasantly surprised i was :)
Some bits are so emotional, too!

So far I am very impressed.....as a classic RPG gamer who loves titles like Final Fantasy 6 (us FFIII), FFVII, and Chrono Trigger and the likes, this game has actually held my attention throughout my so far short time with the game. Its definitely my favorite JRPG in the last few years....While Oblivion I consider a western RPG, remains the king of that domain in my book.
To be honest, I thought this game was "so so" when I saw preview video trailers. I wasnt too pleased with how characters looked. I thought the voice acting was average to good, not great. As months became weeks, with the release day just around the corner, I built a lot of hype watching more updated video clips. For some reason, I started to like the game more and more despite never playing it. Beautiful graphics, the way a next-gen JRPG should be done. That introduction trailer that showed Kaim go against the enemy gauntlet really demonstrated how great this game could be. I was sold by that video clip. I knew in my gut that this game will be phenomenal, to say the least. Several days prior to the release of Lost Odyssey, there were a few reviews out giving 'LO' decent to good reviews, but none of them were deemed excellent (9.0 or higher). The closest was Gametrailers.com's 8.8 rating, which was pretty impressive in itself. This is the first time in a long time, that I ignored ratings and dove right into a game, I so believed in. That's right, despite 5/10, 7.0/10, I wanted to support Mistwalker, because I knew the reviewers were wrong. Maybe some of them were being unprofessional. Turns out, many of the complaints came from long loading screens, framerate issues, but I dare say, that doesnt make or break a game. Take Mass Effect for example, which had plenty of bugs, glitches, screen tearing, long loading, and framerate issues, the game was still highly rated and rightfully so! Because reviewers were able to overlook Mass Effect on technical issues, why not do the same for Lost Odyssey? (end rant) That concludes me running over to Bestbuy on 02/13 to pick up Lost Odyssey, and boy was I impressed with this game in every way. This is one of those games where you must ignore ratings, and give it a shot. You'll be surprised what you have missed because of bias reviews. I say that with confidence. Since day one, this game has totally made a 360 degree spin in my mind and heart. Not only does Lost Odyssey feature a magnificent ensemble of cast (voiceovers), it renders on one of the most beautiful graphics ever to grace the Xbox 360, memorable cutscenes, lovable characters, emotional storyline that is absolutely breathtaking, long loading screens - screen tearing - framerate issues do not even exist in the retail version. The gameplay is so addictively fun that I couldnt put down the controller. If you love JRPGs, this is absolutely the game for you.
The question is - Better than you thought? Gimme a hell yeah. OH yeah, without a doubt in my mind. It leaps and bounds beyond my thoughts. It's truly amazing, and even that's an understatement.
I'm thinking about picking this up, how's the combat and battling does it do anything new? Does fighting get old or boring where you have to unwillingly grind and stuff?
Thanks.

Not too many things new about the combat, save for the ring system (apparently seen in Shadow hearts) and skill link/accessory (think like learning materia from FFVII). Fighting hasn't got boring so far but you won't have to worry about mindless grinding. Each area has a level cap so to speak, so there's more emphasize on strategy. This game made me remember how much I miss RPGs, and I love what they did with the Thousand Dreams mini stories.
On disc 2 now and it keeps getting better and better. This a game I'm not going to forget for a long time
I almost did not pick this game up. I thought about it hard being a older type nintendo RPG fan with crono trigger, secrit of mana, old Final Fantasy (actually FF3 and 7 were my fav in the series) I ended up pulling the trigger. I can say this is one of the best JRPGs I have played in years. Great game. Some thigns could be changed because games have changed alot but the older formula still works out and makes for a game that I did not have high hopes for to a great game. My book a easy 8.5 - 8.8. As for load times it loads so fast I can't even read half the "tips" during load times....
If you like RPGS like FF I WOULD PICK THIS GAME UP!!! Do not trust the reviews on this one I almost did and I would have missed out.
