Male domination - xbox live

Maybe this is more of a gaming in general thing, but it seems that xbox live is dominated by blokes.

I wonder why this is? My best guess is that women are, or at least try to be/act more mature than guys maybe. So do women look down on gaming as immature?

I have added a poll to try gauge a percentage of male v's female gamers (although I understand that this could just be a reflection of male v's female use of game forums lol)

On a side note - do we think this is something that will change? We will see and increased amount of female gamers?

Some girls think games are immature or they just don't understand how its enjoyable - like how I don't understand why they like to shop :roll:

I've played with a few girls over XBL but I noticed that the majority of the time that a girl talks over the mic - they'll usually start to get hit on by the other guys there or that the guys engage in inappropriate dialogue with or about said girl/woman.

There are probably more girls on XBL than we think, but they like to keep quiet to avoid said previous statements.

Honestly, I am kind of sick of the way everyone has some stereotype no girls play,Or that the only girls that do play must be some socially inept losers.Well not all girls may be super model's that do play not all the guys look like Brad Pitt either so I say that is a mute issue.

Being deaf though more people tend to take notice to that more then my gender as my master status,A master status is the main thing people see you then form a stereotype about for xbox live and real life this could be race,gender or your religion or handicap in my case. I have met plenty of women who do infact play games even more "only guy games" like gears of war or rainbow 6 true there is a shortage in my age bracket at mid 20's compared to men.But look at how many young girls are gaming or young kids in general these days.

I think many forget that some girls may be married and therefore only play with there husbands,or only play with a group of friends on xbox live or through a bad experience rather not use the mic and have tons of harassment by some male who thinks women are idiotic or otherwise.

In closing,We all have a master status some may be fat or some may be race realize it is no different then with gender,In any place that a race or gender is a minority there will always be negative stereotypes and oppression against them because the "majority" thinks they are right.

It's just how it is,most games are violent and are oriented in what guys are interested in,if there were more female oriented games then the ratio would change slightly but because the market for female 'gamers' is so low compared to male oriented gamers it's not really going to change.

People stereotype gamers quite alot. Not all gamers (women) think that gaming is immature, or shop all day. Yes I love shopping, and I'm 17 but I still play games casually, and no, not just Nintendogs or any other games most males would assume girls play. Obviously, the gaming market is more aimed towards males, and thus, there is more males populating Xbox Live.

Those ignorantsexists obviously need to grow up, women don't clean, cook, look after children and/or men all day anymore, why shouldn't I play games more than you should be able to do typical 'girl' things.
